NEW YORK (CBS) Maybe Jeremy Olson should have practiced with a target before attempting to pelt Sarah Palin with tomatoes at a book signing in Minnesota Dec. 7.

Olson, 33, who police say has no permanent address, was arrested at the Mall of America in Minnesota after one of the tomatoes meant for Sarah Palin failed to hit their mark and landed squarely in the face of a Bloomington police officer, according to Bloomington Police Commander Mark Stehlik. Commander Stehlik said that Olson's aim was off by "maybe ten feet to the left, it wasn't close to her."

As officers were arresting Olson he said that "he wished he had better aim" according to Commander Stehlik.

Olson now faces charges of 5th degree assault on a police officer and disorderly conduct, according to Commander Stehlik.

Olson is currently being held in the jail at the Bloomington Police Department and when question early Tuesday Dec. 8 he refused to give a statement. He will likely appear in court later today or tommorrow depending on when the investigators are able to get the case in front of prosecutors.

Commander Stehlik also told CBS News' Crimesider that Olson had "a bigger tomato arsenal in his pocket that had yet to be deployed" as well as a journal with one entry that read: 'Today i will attempt to pelt Sarah Palin with juicy red tomatoes for her fantastic collection of stamps on the American political piggy sceen(sic)', it is not known what he meant by 'stamps'.

An alternate ID was also found, when he was arrested, with a different name than the one he gave police. "But we are fairly certain that the name we released is the correct one," Commander Stehlik said.

Commander Stehlik said that there were still questions about why he had an alternate ID and that depending on where the investigation leads there might be more charges.

This just shows you what a classless bunch liberals are. Have you ever seen Ted Kennedy or Barbara Boxer pelted with fruit? We tolerate them with dignity, while conservatives are pelted with fruit and "shouted down". Get some manners people.

Looks like CBS has lost another liberal poster, at least for a few weeks.

Shame on all of you. Especially the writer of this patently biased and sophomoric attempt at news.

A moron hurls a tomato at a woman holding a baby, but because the woman is Sarah Palin liberals are slobbering with glee.

If it had been Michelle Obama, they'd be pulling ye olde race card and screaming for justice.

My guess is that bored cbs desk jockeys take bets on who can get the most hits off a Palin item.

I thought the Michelle Obama chimp-face was a hoot. But I got blasted and called racist and I'm black.

Go figure.

"Leftist have never been good shots." Coming from the "how many ways to shoot yourself in the foot" party, that's a hoot and a half.

Liberals are a lot like Dick Cheaney. Every time they shoot themselves in the foot, the country gets shot in the face.

Sarah Palin is like a bad joke. She's the female version of George Bush. They have more than one thing in common. They are both not too bright, they say the darnerst things, and they both are horrible to the US. I'm so glad she's a republican...and so is George Jr. "I said they have nucular weapons...NUCULAR WEAPONS"!~ "I can see Russia from my house"!~ What a team!~ "LOL"

Leftist have never been good shots. Just look at the economy they took a shot at trying to fix it failed, took a shot at trying to fix health care dismal failure, took a shot at the environment total failure when they relied on frauds and extortionists science, took a shot at trying to end the war failed, took a shot at trying to make the world like us another dismal failure...............

Because of THEIR failures with a one party system they created they are now trying to take it out on some book writer and guess what they failed at that too!

Yeah, sure would like to go back to the boom times under Bush and the Republicans. BTW, according to the WSJ, Bush had the worst job creation record since records started being kept (and that was with 3/4 of his term backed by a republican controlled Congress). However, I wouldn't let the " facts" get in the way of your "rightist" chest thumping.

Actually we are making too much of this thing.
The guy is obviously gay and hates attractive women and wanted to come out of the closet in a dramatic way in the news and get his 15 minutes of fame.
That's all there is to this thing.

yes that must be why...because he is gay and doesn't like attractive women, or maybe he just doesn't like what Sarah Palin stands for or her politics.
