NEW YORK (CBS/AP) As Tiger Woods works to repair his scratched face and ruined car after a Nov. 27 car accident outside his Ilseworth, Fla. home, the golf great is also working to repair his image amidst tabloid-fueled rumors that the crash, now being investigated by police, occurred after his wife discovered an alleged affair with party promoter and Sept. 11 mourner Rachel Uchitel.

"Although I understand there is curiosity, the many false, unfounded and malicious rumors that are currently circulating about my family and me are irresponsible," Woods said in a statement released on his Web site.

For her part, Uchitel denied the affair outright to the Associated Press.

She also told Blackbook Magazine, "I don't appreciate my name or what people think of me being dragged through the mud by people who don't even bother to research what or who they're talking about."

"I totally deny the Enquirer story," she told the magazine.

In a story published last week, the National Enquirer alleged that Woods had been seeing a New York nightclub hostess, and that they recently were together in Melbourne, where Woods competed in the Australian Masters.

Woods remained hunkered down at home in an exclusive gated community outside Orlando. He was scheduled to compete at the Chevron World Challenge, which starts Thursday in Thousand Oaks, Calif. The tournament director, however, did not know whether Woods would play or even attend.

Woods has refused to meet with police who went to his home for a third day but were rebuffed.

Meanwhile, Uchitel, a well-respected nightlife promoter whose fiance died in Sept. 11, travelled to California to meet with her new lawyer, Gloria Allred.

"At some point we will decide what the next step will be, we've got nothing else to say today," Allred told reporters at Los Angeles airport.

Police are still hoping to gain a better understanding of what exactly transpired last Friday.

In a 911 call released by the Florida Highway Patrol (FHP) on Sunday, an unidentified neighbor told the dispatcher, "I have a neighbor, he hit the tree. And we came out here just to see what was going on. I see him and he's laying down."

According to an FHP accident report, Woods had just pulled out of his driveway when he struck a fire hydrant and then a tree. His wife told Windermere police she used a golf club to smash the back windows to help him out.

Authorities towed the Cadillac SUV that Woods was driving and have already documented the damage to the vehicle and the point of impact.

Not bad... (first picture of Rachel Uchitel.)

That reminds me of the spoof "GOP Ad" run by SNL during the Eliot Spitzer scandal.

As pictures of the Governor appeared on the screen, the Narrator was sternly denouncing his immorality and his breach of faith with his wife and family and with the voters.

Then a picture of Ashley Dupre appeared. She was sunbathing on a yacht.

Several photos later, the Narrator had a delayed reaction and "rewound" back to Ashley's picture.

"That's her ?? WOW !!!! Nevermind, Governor, we understand completely now."

Please leave TW alone. This is a private matter. There are so many more important things going on in the world to write about, talk about. Lets be more serious as a nation. Fran.

For the love of God! Would someone please tell me what happened to the fire hydrant? I've been worried sick and NOONE seems to know or care about the victim!

I've agonized over whether I should tell anyone this but last year I was in Orlando on business and went to totally nude bar north of Orlando called Club Juana. They seated me near the main stage, next to a small black man who was passing out $100 dollar bills like they were dimes. He was surrounded by dancers whose fists were bulging with $100's and I couldn't even get a waitress to bring a drink my table. This guy was doing unspeakable things to those dancers that I wouldn't even do in private! Things that would have gotten the average person thrown out of the bar. Finally, when I'd had enough, I asked the guy his name and what do I have to do to get a drink in this place? Sure as hell, he said " My name is Bill Parker and I'm from Phoenix. I'll be happy to buy you a drink". Bill and I are friends now but neither one of us has ever met Tiger Woods.

Very funny. I hope that CBS and others in the media just forget about this whole damn thing. There are children involved, and a family. I think we have more important issues, like who the heck is Bill Parker/.

Uncle Walter is not rolling but spinning in his grave. The man would even soil his mouth by uttering "National Enquirer" and today CBS claims its a reliable source.
I hope Woods moves to Sweden and shakes all you losers off his tail. And BTW I had an affair with Tiger and I have the dirty papers from the bottom of the Macaws cage to prove it.
Florida leads the US in "Hit and Runs" and the only thing the FHP has to do is this??????????????????????????????

He chose to be a celiberity, either like it or get out. He made too much money too fast and it is burning a hole in his fly. I could care less if he was having an affair or not, but cannot understand why he will not talk to the police about the accident, if that was a fregular Joe, he would be under jail so far you would have to dig a tunnel to feed him. I never heard of the other woman until i saw her picture in the paper and really, it is no ones business but theirs so back off and see what happens. Thanks

Being a celebrity do they not have the rights of a ordinary citizen.I do not think it was the citizen that stirred this all up,it was the media the Inquirer etc. They seem to want to know every detail of someones life. He never did a criminal act, but being up late at night and hitting a tree you had to do all these suggestions and calling people till it became a sordid affair that I and no one wanted to know about, All this was unneccesary. It was between Tiger and his wife and that was that. He paid his fine got points on his insurance and will repair the car. That is all that should have been reported you heard him it is a private matter. NONE OF OUR BUSINESS

Why is this under a section called CRIMESIDER? The article is about a supposed misstress denying allegations. Where is the crime in that CBS?

This article should be in the Entertainment section.

Unless you are carrying out some sort of trial?
