(CBS/AP) NEW YORK - Authorities in New York are now looking for whoever set four puppies and a dog on fire in Brooklyn over the weekend.

The dead animals were found in a bag on 91st Street near Ditmas Avenue in Brooklyn's Canarsie area near a beverage distribution warehouse.

The ASPCA says the dogs were pit bulls or pit bull mixes.

Initially, authorities said a total of four dogs were found dead, but further investigation revealed an additional puppy.

A nearby surveillance camera captured video of a van arriving at the warehouse after midnight Saturday. Several men got out carrying a large garbage bag, setting it on fire near a trash bin and then driving off.

It's not clear if the animals were alive or dead when they were set on fire.

The ASPCA asks anyone with information to call 1-877-843-2772.
