Christopher Dorner Update: Social media support seen for ex-cop accused of killing spree

A photo released by the Los Angeles Police Department shows three images of suspect Christopher Dorner, a former Los Angeles officer. Police have launched a massive manhunt for the former Los Angeles officer suspected of killing a couple over the weekend and opening fire on four officers early Thursday, Feb. 7, 2013, killing one and critically wounding another, authorities said.

(CBS) - Christopher Dorner, the ex-cop accused of killing three people in a deadly revenge plot against the Los Angeles Police Department, has garnered support online from those sympathizing with his motives, CBS Sacramento reports.

The station reports one Facebook page has gone as far as proclaiming Dorner for President.

"We propose electing a man who could no longer sit idly by and watch as malicious tyrants abuse the innocent," the site says.

On another page entitled, "We are all Chris Dorner," someone posted, "Yes, this is war."

According to CBS Sacramento, nearly 3,000 Facebook users "like" another page entitled "I support Christopher Jordan Dorner."

When CBS Sacramento posted the question, why? Why support a man wanted for at least three killings and the author of a murderous manifesto promising to target cops?

One Dorner sympathizer responded, "Because something needs to be done about the long known corruption of not only the LAPD, but several agencies."

Another comment read, "He is God for now and I support him and this page."

Sid Martinez, an assistant professor of sociology at Sacramento State is reportedly not surprised by the outpouring of support for Dorner. He points to a long history of distrust and tension between parts of Southern California and the police, as the motivation behind the movement.

"To see someone kill police officers, they may see this as a kind of way of standing against oppressive force," Martinez told the station.

The cops that were shot were in pursuit of him and police posse types took out a vehicle resulting in two innocent women being shot...so are you excusing those actions? More than 50 bullets unloaded into the back of that truck that did not even fit the profile. Not to mention countless others drug from their vehicles, cuffed and interrogated for daring to drive in a truck.

by lloydbest1 February 12, 2013 10:56 AM EST: Christopher J. Dorner wrote a manifesto that had to have taken several days to rough out and edit. It could have been a project that took months. I read it and while it drifts away from reality the way all such documets written by radicals of one stripe or another do, it is better written than many. That took thought and time.

With no job, he also had enough time on his hands to research targets, get in a little combat refresher training, scout good hidey-holes, cache supplies and weapons all over southern California and maybe even beyond. He also had a good read on who among his friends and acquaintences would support his wild endeavor. After all, he didn't exactly go away quietly when he was discharged from the force. I'm sure he shared his dissapointment with his former brother officers with SOMEone. Perhaps several someones.

He also set himself up as the latter day David going after the 21st century Goliath. His manifesto clearly articulates that. I'll also be willing to bet the dude was astute enough to be reasonably sure that his mission would get full approval and support among many. The fact that as many people support him and his campaign through social media as do now tells me his bet was a sound one.

I don't think he is insane in the traditional sense but I also believe he's got one helluva mad going on against the people he feels betrayed him. That his enemy is an agency that has set and continues to set new and hopefully unreachable standards of villainy hasn't hurt his standing among those who have also felt put upon in the cyber-world. Unless he's been incapacitated by the recent bad weather (not likely, even I could survive all that with little or no discomfort), injury, or bad luck, he's still fully functional. My guess is if he is still alive, he is still healthy and is biding his time and will go operational again as soon as he feels the LAPD lets down its guard.

One thing that should make the warm wee-wee run down the leg of anyone incharge of capturing this man is this:
He is a trained survivalist. He has the skills to live and remain healthy in the wilds indefinitely and is extremely well versed in avoiding capture. As fat as he appears in the photos, he is likely in excellent shape, perhaps better than his pursuers. He's a crackerjack marksman which will come in handy if he ever needs to shoot a meal. And not only is he "on the run" but he is also still very much the hunter. Eric Rudolph had none of these skills and he avoided capture for 5 years.

Perhaps maybe Dorner is totally justified in what he's doing, and the way the case is being reported is all meant to drum up support for further gun controls... Or maybe we should just wait to see how this all plays out before judging things we don't fully understand.
