Teacher suspended after pouring pencil shavings in student's mouth, report says
Marquis Jay, 13, a student at Boles Jr. High School in Arlington, Texas, shows CBS DFW the amount of pencil shavings he says a teacher there poured into his mouth.
/ CBS DFW"I was sitting in class with my head tilted back and opening my mouth," Marquis Jay, 13, said of the January 2013 incident. "[The] teacher came over and poured the pencil shavings in my mouth."
The eighth grader says he immediately spit it out and was taken to the nurse's office where he washed his mouth out and called his mother, the station reports.
According to Marquis, the teacher responsible was not assigned to his class. She had stopped by to help his teacher, CBS DFW says.
Almost a month after the incident, it was announced on Friday that the teacher was suspended. But Marquis' mother, Deidre Brown, thinks the teacher should be fired, the station reports.
Amy Casas, Director of Communications for the Arlington Independent School District, called the teacher's alleged actions unacceptable and said the incident was immediately looked into after it occurred.
"The school has been in constant communication with the student's mother about this incident and other matters. At no time has mom expressed any concerns about the manner in which this situation was handled to the school or the district," Casas said.
According to CBS DFW, Marquis has seen the teacher since and she has apologized. "She said sorry for what happened. She wasn't thinking right," he said.
