Mark Hasse Update: Slain Texas prosecutor told friends he'd been threatened, was carrying a gun

(CBS) CBS News has learned that Mark Hasse, the Texas prosecutor gunned down outside the Kaufman County courthouse Thursday, was concerned about his safety in recent weeks.

Hasse told a longtime friend on Jan. 23 that he was being threatened. The friend said Hasse was carrying a gun everywhere he went and changed his exit route from work each day.

Hasse did not know who was behind the threats. He did not discuss the nature of them or how he received them..

Nearly $65,000 is now being offered for information in the murder, CBS DFW reports.

Authorities said no arrests have been made in the case. The Dallas County District Attorney's Office pledged $30,000 for information leading to an arrest and conviction of the shooting suspects, bolstering other reward money of roughly $35,000, according to CBS DFW.

District Attorney Craig Watkins told the station that the money came from assets seized in criminal cases.

"He is in a fraternity of prosecutors, so from Dallas County's perspective, we're going to do everything we can to bring those individuals to justice," Watkins said.

Since it is their job to bring 'those individuals to justice...', does this mean if a crackhead is murdered, they do not bring their 'A Game?'

This statement leads you to believe that they only try when it is someone THEY care about. Glad I do not live in Texas (not that I ever would, those people be crazy...).

I am just amazed at the level of intelligence (or lack thereof) of the comments. This is a discredit to the education system of the United States.

Of course the real problem is the belief of the NRA. Yea his gun protected him from what would have been prevented if a background check had been performed. LaPierre what do you have to say about this?

by carthur60 February 4, 2013 1:03 AM EST: Wingsfan, the guns used by the profssional killers on DA Hasse were almost certainly not bought at a gun store. You seem to be unaware that background checks are done on purchases at gun stores. While called it an "instantaneous background check," they actually take at least 15 minutes to perform while the driver's license name is run through the FBI's computer database in the Washington DC area. The last time I bought a gun, it took over two days to get an okay through to the gun store.

According to the NRA, if he was carrying a gun, he would have been saved. how could this happen? he was armed and still killed? It must mean he needed an even bigger gun, perhaps a tank. Perhaps an intercontinental bullistic missle would have been better. Yes, lets arm all prossecuters with intercontinental bullistic missles so they can defend themselves!

No a gun doesnt always work but i would rather have one come the time I am in need of one and the situation allows of me to use it if i get that chance. A comma belongs in the sentence: "No, a gun...", as well as in "Well, I just ...". Also, the word "I" should be capitalized as well as the first word of every sentence. Your grammar is no better than canameri's. Does that make you a Democrat voter, too? Interesting that there is a news article on abcnews about a boy who hid and survived, but you discount his method.

It should be "you're" which is a contraction of "you are". First, the 'No' ahould be followed by a comma. Second, when someone is referring to the self, the proper form is the capitalized 'I'. Third, 'doesnt' requires an apostrophe because it is the contraction of "does not". Before you criticize someone else for their spelling, you should check your own grammar. I'm probably not totally correct here but I am just sayin'. . .

Criminals in our country need to be found guilty, like they are, because I am talking about CRIMINALS here, and they need to be brought to the public square within 2 weeks, if it is a capital crime, and they need to be hung, and it needs to be televised and put on the internet. We are evil, weak, stupid people for not dealing with other evil people. We become like them. And don't think that it doesn't have to do with the fact that women have been given the right to vote and so many other rights in our society. They don't know what to do! They can't run society! Men are idiots these days though, and they were when they let females have the right to vote too, and the right to kill their babies in their wombs. A new slogan, "America, the land without guts, (or babies in the womb until it's time for them to come out)."

Better yet, since our injustice system is so messed up, I hope they try to shoot their way out when the cops find them and end up getting riddled with bullets. Then they can stand before God Almighty and also the slain prosecutor trying to defend themselves. Too bad we can't put that on TV. That would be a hoot.

Chief Chris Aulbaugh said Friday that there is no indication of any fear on Hasse's part before he was killed.

Was, wasn't, did happen, didn't happen...Yes or no, right or wrong...
As for the reward, is it a dead or alive bounty...

Ifin the aryan brotherhood is behind it like whats being reported..
