/ CBS DFWPolice officers say Tammy Lowe ran a red light in her Toyoa Yaris last Thursday night, and struck John Paul Raidy while he was in a crosswalk with his mother and two-year-old sister.
"We're relieved this person (Lowe) has turned themselves in. At the same time, we're devastated that it's a teacher," Steven Raidy, the boy's grandfather, told CBS DFW.
According to the Dallas Observer, Lowe is a history teacher at the Adams Middle School in Grand Prarie, which is part of the Dallas-Fort Worth Metroplex.
"It's going to be a healing process as far as forgiveness. But the woman did something right, even though she did something terribly wrong to our grandson," Raidy told CBS DFW.
The station reported Lowe resigned her teacher post before turning herself in, and was being held on a $100,000 bond.
Steven Raidy wants Tammy Lowe to know with a single action, she wiped out generations to come.
"The way we felt this last couple of days is anger. We dealt with it. Now, we have to accept what's happened. But, I would like for this woman to know what she's done to this family," he said.
"What this woman single-handedly did was totally wiped out generations and generations of a family," he said.
He said the only sense of hope the family has now is that the boy will live on through the donation of his organs.
"There will be some person out there with big, baby blues. They'll see through eyes like he saw through his eyes. There'll be one special person out there who'll have a heart as big as gold and full of love as the State of Texas," he said.
