JonBenet Ramsey Case: Grand jury voted to indict parents in 1999, prosecutor refused to sign

(CBS NEWS) -- Although a grand jury voted to indict the parents of slain child beauty queen JonBenet Ramsey over a decade ago, prosecutors refused to move forward with the case, the Boulder Daily Camera reported over the weekend.

According to the newspaper, Boulder District Attorney Alex Hunter refused to sign the indictment against John and Patsy Ramsey in 1999 because he did not believe he could prove the charges of child abuse resulting in death beyond a reasonable doubt.

JonBenet Ramsey was six-years-old when she was murdered on Christmas night, 1996, in the family's Boulder, Colo., home. The case has never been solved.

Prosecutors exonerated JonBenet Ramsey's parents and brother of her slaying in 2008 after DNA tests pointed to a stranger being responsible for her death.
