Texas College Shooting Update: Both suspects in Lone Star College shooting in custody

(CBS/KHOU) HARRIS COUNTY - Both suspects in a shooting Tuesday at Lone Star College in the Houston area are now in custody, a law enforcement source told CBS affiliate KHOU.

Harris County Sheriff's Maj. Armando Tello says the shooting was the result of an altercation between two people, and at least one was a student. He said a maintenance man was injured in the crossfire.

Tello said another person was taken to a hospital for medical reasons.

Both men in the dispute reportedly pulled out guns and shot at each other.

According to the station, the injured suspect was taken to an area hospital handcuffed to a stretcher, but the other one evaded authorities. Around 2:30 p.m., that suspect turned himself in at Northwest Medical Center, according to the KHOU source.

The Lone Star College System has an enrollment of 90,000 students and six campuses, according to its website.

A friend was drooling at the prospect the suspects might have had concealed weapons permits... thus indicting Governor Perry and concealed carry policy. To which I replied: What difference would it make if suspects had or did not have a concealed weapons permit? Far as I know it's legal to carry in Texas... although maybe not on that campus...which would indict the policy of disarmament... much as the gun bans in the murder-by-gun havens of Chicago and DC. Cops shoot and/or beat people all the time and get away with it... Orange County CA comes to mind. It would further speak to a failure of the state to do an adequate background check... or the fallacy of assuming such a check will prevent a crime ..because an individual's mental state may change in the future. Archie Bunker once joked the answer to aircraft hijacking was to arm all the passengers. But is it really a joke? How many times have you heard of armed soldiers gunning down their equally armed allies?

by keithf1138 January 22, 2013 10:29 PM EST: The point would be that even people that have been approved for concealed carry still can get all pissed off and use what they have. Well with people with concealed carry that is a gun. With fists or a knife innocent bystanders likely will be unharmed.
