Trayvon Martin's mother joins Democratic lawmakers pursuing "Stand Your Ground" repeal

(CBS) SANFORD, Fla. - The mother of slain Florida teen Trayvon Martin joined Florida lawmakers announcing their push for legislation to repeal the state's controversial "Stand Your Ground" law.

Sen. Dwight Bullard, D-Miami, and Rep. Alan Williams, D-Tallahassee are sponsoring the repeal bill (HB 4009), CBS Miami reports. The state's self defense law contains an element known as the Stand Your Ground provision which allows people who feel threatened to shoot back at assailants out in public.

Neighborhood watch volunteer George Zimmerman is charged with second-degree murder in the shooting of the 17-year-old Martin in February, 2012, in Sanford, Fla. The 29-year-old has claimed self-defense under the Stand Your Ground Law and is pleading not guilty.

Martin's mother, Sybrina Fulton, joined Bullard and Williams for the announcement at a news conference in Tallahassee Wednesday, WJXT reports.

Poor woman just ain't never gonna get over that "my boy wouldn't do that" syndrome. Love is blind, but sometimes people get back from life just what they invest in it.

Guilty or innocent, he will be haunted by the fact that he killed an unarmed human for the remainder of his days. He was intent on not letting THIS "punk" get away but the problem is, that's not his job. Have fun living in a foreign country (Not Mexico because we know from your facebook posts how you feel about them) Maybe Northwestern Alaska or East Guam. Even then he will live in a constant state of paranoia and fear and rightfully so. God's plan is funny like that..
