Jason Earl Dean, Taco Bell employee, sentenced to 4 years in prison for handcuffing self to female co-worker

(CBS/AP) RINGGOLD, Ga. - A Georgia man who handcuffed himself to a female Taco Bell co-worker has been sentenced to four years in prison.

The Rome News-Tribune reports 25-year-old Jason Earl Dean of Dalton handcuffed himself to the 18-year-old woman in August 2011 in an attempt to convince her to go on a date with him.

According to CBS Atlanta, Dean waited outside for the female co-worker after failing to land a date with her the previous month. The Catoosa News reports that Dean handcuffed himself to her as she was trying to get in her car.

Several Taco Bell co-workers helped out the unnamed woman as Dean fled before police arrived. He was arrested two days later, the station says.

Lookout Mountain Assistant District Attorney Alan Norton says a Catoosa County Superior Court judge sentenced Dean to four years in prison followed by six years on probation.

Norton says Dean is also not allowed to have any contact with the victim or her family.

And people ask what's the big deal with rape culture? You people are excusing it!

This man approached a woman who had already rejected him and handcuffed himself to her. HANDCUFFED. She could not get away even if she tried, because this person who she had already rejected was now literally attached to her arm. That's not cute. That's not even creepy. That's frightening. How was she supposed to know what he would do next? Maybe he would yank her pants down and molest or rape her. Maybe he would pull out a weapon and kill her or himself.

And the assumption that she's a lesbian from 51ers? What woman in her right mind would accept that sort of behavior? Would you be okay if someone approached your mother, your sister, your wife, or your daughter in a dark parking garage and then literally attached himself to her arm with no way for her to get free? That wouldn't be a wacky jaunt, it would probably be the most terrifying thing that had ever happened to her.

The lack of empathy in these comments is disgusting. This is not "cute". This is not "funny". This is not even understandable. This is stalking and attempted kidnapping. If it was a 14-year-old girl or boy, would there be more outrage? But instead a diet of romantic comedies has slowly melted brains into mush where an act of attempting to terrorize a girl into dating you is seen as a grand romantic gesture. A grand romantic gesture is showing up at the girl's work with a giant bouquet of her favorite flower, and accepting either her acceptance or refusal with good grace. This was not romance, it was criminal, and he deserves his prison sentence.

with their body & with vehicles. I've been detained for several
minutes with guys repeatedly saying "where you going, where you
going, etc. ad nauseum " while blocking my path with their arms &
body or driving mechanical trucks at where I'm stepping.

We have a policy, I believe it's public law. If you intentionally
detain someone it's kidnapping. They just claim they were trying
to talk to me. I'm a 5'4 male 175#, they're 6'1-6'5 225-325#.

All considerably larger than I. It does beat the slamming things into
windows & tables by my head, hitting me in the hardhat with wrenches
& name calling though. Which has occurred a 1,000x's over 25 yrs.

Hey, I'm a midget little man, so I deserve it. Right? Funny stuff.
Just like being alone 25yrs as an adult. Nobody wants a circus freak.
So many ppl seem to get pleasure from others pain. Guess that's part
of being a REAL man ... or woman. Didn't mean to leave the LADIES out.

As far as the 4 year sentencing. My cousin was killed in a random
drive-by shooting 20 years ago & the 3 assailants only got 7 years.
Can't say I really like being around the human race anymore.

He shouldn't have handcuffed the girl, but 4 yrs + 6 probation does
seem excessive. I think for a first offense like this unless she was
hurt . A small fine, 30 days, 1yr probation, loss of job & restraining order to stay away from her should have been more than sufficient. If she was scared & wanted to press charges that is.

The whole playing hard to get, guessing thing with women creates part of this type problem. I know they do not get it & think it's obvious if they are interested, but frankly they don't have to deal with the male initiating & double standard of it all. Unless this kid had a previous criminal record, maybe I could rationalize a thirty day - half year sentence in the local city/county/community pound. But a four year federal sentence for acting like a dummy? His co-workers and supervisor probably never told him "don't mess with Randy, she don't like boys".; Reply to this comment

You hear stories every day of "cute" how-we-met stories. Can't you just hear it "Why, he HANDCUFFED himself to me so that I would date him!" But longer then that, especially when she asked to be released and required help, is wayyyy creepy. Maybe prison time is a little extreme, but he needs psychiatric help, not just a fine and probation.; Reply to this comment
