"Doomsday threat" gets Mich. teen arrested in alleged school gun incident

(CBS) FRASER, Mich. - A 16-year-old boy could face charges for an alleged gun threat at Fraser High School in Macomb County, supposedly linked to doomsday prognostications, CBS Detroit reports.

The teen, whose name has not been released, was arrested after reportedly mentioning that the world was going to end on Friday, December 21, and that he planned to shoot people. The student was sent home for making the threat and later arrested, the station says.

Fraser city police told WWJ Newsradio 950 that the teen remained in custody as of Thursday afternoon.

WDIV-TV reported the boy could be charged with making a false report or making a threat of terrorism. The terrorism charge is a felony that carries up to 20 years in prison, CBS Detroit reports.

The incident came a day after multiple Michigan school districts canceled classes due to talk surrounding the elementary school shooting in Newtown, Conn. that left 26 dead. This talk was combined with possible threats and rumors connected to the Mayan calendar purportedly predicting the end of the world on Friday, Dec. 21, 2012, CBS Detroit reports.
