Connecticut School Shooting: Mother of Sandy Hook student describes stressful search for son (VIDEO)

(CBS) NEWTOWN, Conn. - Melissa Makris, the mother of a fourth grader who survived Friday's mass shooting a  Sandy Hook Elementary School, told CBS News about her son's reaction and what it was like trying to pick him up from the school.

Makris said her son described hearing "yelling, very loud noises, things popping" inside the school as the shooting was taking place. Makris said her son told her that his gym teacher pushed all the kids into the corner of the room and sheltered them before police arrived and instructed the children to run to the nearby fire station.
