Jack Culolias Update: Police resume lake search for missing Arizona State University student
Jack Culolias
/ KPHO(CBS) TEMPE, A.Z. - Tempe police are resuming the lake search for Jack Culolias, an Arizona State University freshman who disappeared Friday night.
Police say they received a tip from a concerned resident claiming she saw something resembling a person's silhouette in the water, CBS affiliate KPHO reports.
The tipster claimed she saw the object in the water northeast of the area that investigators had searched for three days.
Culolias, 19, was seen leaving the Cadillac Ranch restaurant at Tempe Marketplace around 11p.m. last Friday, ASU police spokesman Jim Hardina confirmed to KPHO.
Culolias' family told KPHO that the student left his credit card and cell phone behind.
Grace Culolias, the 19-year-old's mother, alerted ASU police Sunday evening when she became concerned she had been unable to contact her son.
Tuesday afternoon, family members - who have flown to Arizona to help in the search - found a red shoe at an embankment along the Rio Salado River/Tempe Town Lake, which runs north of the Tempe Marketplace. The missing teen's mother said she recognized it immediately, according to KPHO. Tempe police said DNA on the show is still being processed.
"I want my son," Grace Culolias told KPHO. "He's a good kid and I just want him home."
Jack Culolias is described as 6' tall and has brown eyes and brown hair. His friends said they have been conducting search parties every night and hanging posters to raise awareness. Police say the teen's mother was worried about possible hazing because the student was pledging to a fraternity.
According to one of Jack Culolias' friends, there was no hazing involved and the ritual is a thing of the past, KPHO reports.
Police say there is no reason to believe there is any foul play involved.
Anyone with information regarding the disappearance is asked to contact Tempe police at 480-350-8311.
