Wyo. Bow and Arrow Attack: Christopher Krumm said father gave him Asperger's and should be castrated, report says

(CBS/AP) VERNON, Conn. - Weeks before he allegedly killed his father, his father's girlfriend and then himself, Christopher Krumm reportedly told a neighbor that he believed his father gave him Asperger's syndrome and should be "castrated" to prevent him from having more children.

According to the Associated Press, neighbor Matt DiPinto of Vernon, Conn., told Fox affiliate WTIC-TV that Krumm, 25, made the comments while giving him a ride home a few weeks ago.

"He's like, 'So my dad gave me Asperger's ... and my dad should have never had any kids. He should have never had me and passed it on to me, and the government shouldn't have let him have kids,"' DiPinto reportedly said. "It was just out of nowhere ... but he seemed pretty livid about it."

On Nov. 30, Christopher Krumm allegedly stabbed his father's girlfriend, Heidi Arnold, to death, then went to Wyoming's Casper College where his father, James Krumm, was a professor, and shot his father in the head with a high-powered bow and arrow while his father was teaching a computer science class at Casper College.

James Krumm, 56, managed to wrestle with his son and gave time for about six students to flee the classroom. Authorities say both men died after Christopher Krumm stabbed himself and then his father.

Christopher Krumm had recently driven to Casper from Connecticut and had been staying at a local hotel. He had no significant history of encounters with police.

Vernon police searched Christopher Krumm's apartment on Friday night. Officers didn't disclose what they found, but said any items of interest would be turned over to investigators in Wyoming.

Neighbors say Christopher Krumm moved into the apartment building last summer and appeared to work in construction or for a utility, because he wore a neon safety vest, The Hartford Courant reported. They say he was quiet and appeared to be anti-social.

The killings stunned people in the apartment building.

"It's so insane," said Kim Warren, another of Christopher Krumm's neighbors. "You never would have guessed he would have done something like that."

Mickie Goodro, of Twin Falls, Idaho, a friend of James Krumm and Arnold, told the Casper Star-Tribune that Christopher Krumm was in her Calculus class when she taught at Casper College. Krumm graduated from Natrona County High School in Casper in 2005 and studied electrical engineering at Colorado School of Mines, the newspaper reported.

Christopher Krumm's previous addresses include one in the western Massachusetts city of Springfield and others in the Colorado cities of Golden, Fort Collins and Lakewood.

by LeslieFish February 23, 2013 3:27 AM EST: Had Krumm been taking antidepressant or antipsychotic medicines at the time, or just previously? There's a disturbing correlation between antidepressant drugs and homicide/suicide.

Also, has anyone noticed that he's reported as killing his father's girlfriend and father with "a high-powered bow and arrow"? The term "high-powered" is the giveaway; expect to see pundits demanding laws to forbid ownership of bows and arrows next.

by geoh777 December 27, 2012 11:26 PM EST: Evil character is hardly ever considered as a cause of a person committing murder. The concept of evil is too often associated with the Bible, the teachings of Christianity or religion.

People would rather believe that individuals are all innately good, and then something "snaps," or a brain chemistry imbalance or other vague cause makes "good people do bad things," making their crimes not their fault.

It's about time that people wake up to the truth: there are some individuals out there who will kill you if they think they can get away with it or they will otherwise benefit somehow.; Reply to this comment


by JakeGronie December 3, 2012 2:53 PM EST: I wish the article would clarify more. Were the dad and son both diagnosed with Asperger's, or was the disturbed son somehow claiming the dad infected him with Asperger's?

Unfortunately, their has been a trend by some with behavioral problems and in worse cases anti-social behavior to self diagnose themselves with Asperger's. With the coming changes to the DSM, I think their is general confusion about Autism Spectrum Disorders. I think stigma is actually increasing, from those who claim Asperger's is a made up disorder on one end and by those who believe person's on the Spectrum are helpless on the other. A poorly reported article as this does not help the situation.; Reply to this comment

I have a son who is on the borderline between high-functioning autism and Asperger's and I have been around kids like him all his life. There was something WAY more wrong with this kid than just Asperger's because AS kids are not generally violent. Oh yeah, and what did dad's girlfriend have to do with him having Asperger's? See what I mean?
