Ga. teen accused of killing stepfather with sword will be charged as adult, police say
Joseph M. Addis, 16
/ CBS Atlanta(CBS/AP) JASPER, Ga. - Georgia teenager Joseph Addis will be charged as an adult after allegedly stabbing his stepfather to death with a Samurai sword Friday night, the Atlanta Journal Constitution reports.
Deputies said the incident happened in the gated community of the Preserve at Sharp Mountain shortly before midnight on Nov. 23.
The Samurai-style sword used to stab Addis' stepfather, Christopher Allen, was part of a collection of replica items according to investigators.
During Addis' first court appearance on Monday, the judge ordered that Addis undergo a psychological examination before continuing through the judicial process, CBS Atlanta reports. He was also assigned a court appointed attorney.
Addis was initially held at the Juvenile Detention Center in Dalton and his first court appearance was closed to the media, the Atlanta Journal Constitution says. But the teen's name and booking photo were released after he was charged in Pickens County Superior Court.
The teen is currently being held without bond.
