Casey Anthony Update: Jose Baez, former Anthony attorney, told Crimesider about "buried" computer searches

(CBS) - Nearly five months before the Florida sheriff's office that investigated the death of Caylee Anthony admitted they hadn't turned over searches done on the Anthony home computer, former Casey Anthony attorney Jose Baez told Crimesider that he believed those searches had been "buried."

Last week, CBS affiliate WKMG quoted Orange County Sheriff's Capt. Angelo Nieves as saying that it was an "oversight" that his agency never gave prosecutors the information that on the day 2-year-old Caylee died, someone searched for "fool-proof suffication (sic)" on the computer in the Anthony home.

Baez, who represented Casey Anthony against charges she murdered her daughter Caylee, told Crimesider in an interview on July 5, 2012 - the first anniversary of Casey's acquittal - that the computer searches were among "numerous" pieces of evidence that were never brought out in trial. This evidence also includes the fact that just after searching for "fool-proof" suffocation, someone clicked onto an article about methods of suicide.

Because the searches were never raised at trial, attorneys did not have a chance to argue about who might have conducted them.

"The most difficult thing to do is to put somebody behind the computer," admitted Baez.

According to Baez, phone records showed that Casey Anthony was on the phone with a friend at the time of the computer search on June 16, 2008. He suggested that it was possible Casey's father, George Anthony, may have been the one who typed in the search terms.

A jury of her peers found the state did not meet the threshold of proof. And as such did the right thing and found her "not guilty". We can't allow the government to throw people in jail without this burden of proof in place to protect all of us. Let's be happy the system works and willingly accept the costs of the protection. The cost being that sometimes someone we "think" is guilty will go free. Leave the woman alone already. This is BS.

Juries have been know to acquit even when reasonable minds would find enough evidence to convict, (see OJ Simpson). You are knocking down straw men, nobody is arguing that Anthony should be jailed based on little evidence, or retried for that matter. However, there was plenty of evidence proving she was guilty. Unfortunately the jury chose the easy way out. This woman is not in jail, and the government isn't "out to get her". However the public has a right to know if the prosecution and investigation was bungled.

by Jynnxter November 27, 2012 6:23 PM EST: ...refusal to think...death happens hours before decomposition...Caylee was already decomposing in "early-to-mid June"...she couldn't have died in mid-to-late June and been decomposing for 2 days FIRST....

They have the wrong date. I believe Flag Day (June 14th) was the 'early-to-mid June date they were looking for, but the video of MtDora screwed-up the truth.

Baez is scum, trying to get a child killer off is grounds for going to hell, i don't care what the burden of proof is or her rights bla bla bla, she is a lying cheating child killer who should be behind bars no matter what the law says. to even see her face and this information in the news makes me sick to my stomach. The prosecutors should be charged too, for doing such a bad job, did the jury think they were playing a video game? Come on, this was child murder and she should have paid the price. The circumstantial evidence was enough to drown a horse and they wanted DNA??? Quit watching CSI and use some common sense.; Reply to this comment
