Abraham Lincoln-Benjamin Franklin mixup: Don't blame them, it's a counterfeiting case!
Benjamin Franklin (above) should be the only American statesman depicted on the modern C-note, not Abraham Lincoln; that's what apparently foiled a counterfeiter from Rhode Island.
/ WikipediaUnfortunately for him, according to police, the crook's phony $100 bills had an image of Abraham Lincoln, instead of just Ben Franklin, like the real 100's.
That'll cost him.
Police say the counterfeit 100's Dana Leland used to try to buy items at a Target store had watermarks showing Honest Abe.
But Lincoln's portrait graces the $5 bill. Ben's the guy on the big bucks.
Police tell The Sun Chronicle the 29-year-old Leland used the not-fake-enough bills on three consecutive days at the Target in North Attleborough, Mass., to buy items worth less than $25.
How much sense does that make?
The suspect, from Central Falls, R.I., was held on $1,000 cash bail (that's ten Benjamins) after pleading not guilty Wednesday to counterfeiting charges.
