Drunk Driving Daily Double: Man busted twice at 1:08 a.m., thanks to daylight saving time

(CBS) An Ohio man was arrested twice for drunk driving at the exact same time, on the very same day.

Niles Gammons, 22, can thank - or blame - the recent changeover to daylight saving time, according to The Smoking Gun.

Of course, Gammons can also blame himself.

According to the Smoking Gun, Gammons was first pulled over by an Urbana, Ohio, cop when he was spotted driving an Oldsmobile the wrong way in an alley, in the early morning of Sunday, Nov. 4.  The time was 1:08 a.m.

The website reports that Gammons' blood alcohol content was measured at .116. He was arrested for drunk driving, transported to Urbana police headquarters, issued citations and "released to an adult."

Then, turn back the clock - literally. At 2 a.m. the hands of time were set back to 1 a.m. in deference to daylight saving time. Within minutes, The Smoking Gun reports, the same officer was patrolling in Urbana's municipal parking lot when a vehicle "backed out of a spot rapidly and nearly collided with my cruiser."

The officer determined that, once again, it was Gammons behind the wheel. The officer said he asked Gammons why he was driving - since he was under suspension and still intoxicated - and the suspect replied that "his friend that picked him up, dropped him off and refused to take him home."

And so, for the second time that morning - and again at precisely 1:08 a.m. - Niles Gammons was arrested for drunk driving and transported to Urbana police headquarters, this time with an alleged blood alcohol content of .109, only slightly less than upon his first arrest.

According to The Smoking Gun, Gammons is scheduled to appear in a Champaign County court on the same day for both cases - Thursday, Nov. 15.

Naturally, both are scheduled to be heard at the same time.
