NYPD officer suspended after kidnapping victim is found in his garage

(CBS/WCBS) NEW YORK - A NYPD detective has been suspended without pay after a kidnapping victim was found inside the officer's garage.

According to CBS New York, police discovered the victim at the home of 17-year police veteran Ondre Johnson, after tracing a ransom call to the building in Springfield Gardens, Queens.

Johnson was not charged, but four others were arrested, CBS New York reports. One of those taken into custody was related to Johnson.

Police reportedly say the victim was grabbed off the street and was being held for $75,000 dollars, CBS New York reports.

The NYPD's Internal Affairs Bureau is reportedly investigating the incident.

Oh, and he hasn't been arrested yet, even though one of his relatives was part of it, and the victim was found in HIS HOUSE.....amazing the things cops can get away with. Oh, and New York is really starting to sound like Arizona has been for the last few years. Is there anywhere safe to live anymore???; Reply to this comment

It is a sad fact that, in the eyes of the general public, today's police (even judges), both city and state, have become nothing more than a brotherhood that band together to protect the actions of one another In far too many cases, Mayors, and other city officials join in, to avoid costly civil lawsuits.

I am definitely NOT defending the officer in this case, however everyone deserves the right to be judged innocent until proven guilty, and that includes NOT being arrested without sufficient evidence.

It is entirely possible that the officer in this case is totally unaware of any kidnapping or ransom demands made by other members of his family.

While the suspension is understandable, if it is to keep the officer from taking part in the investigation or from having access to any information gathered, it doesn't fully explain the suspension without pay, unless the DA is waiting to see what charges to make before arresting him.

Why do you think I, as well as most of the public, see today's police---yeah, even judges---as "nothing more than a brotherhood that band together to protect the actions of one another"? This isn't the first case where a cop has been caught red-handed in some type of crime, and not arrested for it. Anyone else, as with the other people involved in this case, would have been arrested.

I know people like you like to see the good in law enforcement, blah, blah, blah, but I work in the domestic violence field. I know about incidents that take place BEFORE the charges are filed, or dropped, or whatever. You'd be surprised how many cops like to go home and hurt their wives....and get away with it.

What the F? If someone who was reported kidnapped was found in MY garage, I would not be suspended without pay. I would be sitting in a maximum security jail cell right now. Are the police now so far above the law they can't even be arrested when caught red-handed in a crime?
