Man refuses to leave NC jail, gets rearrested

(CBS/AP) WENTWORTH, N.C. - A man who'd just been released from jail in North Carolina was arrested almost immediately for trespassing...because he refused to leave the jail.

Some people just don't know how to say goodbye.

The News Record of Greensboro reports 37-year-old Rodney Valentine wouldn't leave the Rockingham County lockup Saturday after authorities refused to give him a ride to a motel.

Valentine had been behind bars since May 22. Now he's charged with second-degree trespassing and right back in familiar surroundings.

He's being held on $500 bond and is scheduled to appear in court Aug. 9.

...sad...he probably didn't want to leave because he had it better in jail than out on his own...I'm old enough to remember a Christmas Eve episode of Red Skelton as Freddie the Freeloader who got arrested and then released, only to get arrested again, etc...this went on for about four arrests, release and re-arrests...finally the cops realized he hadn't anywhere to go and it was snowing, so they let Freddie spend Christmas Eve and Day in jail, feeding him, keeping him warm with a roof over his head...
