James Holmes: Aurora shooting suspect rejected by gun club

(CBS/AP) AURORA, Colo. - Aurora shooting suspect James Holmes applied to join a Colorado gun range but never became a member after the owner became concerned over his "bizarre" message and behavior.

Owner Glenn Rotkovich says Holmes emailed an application to join the Lead Valley Range in Byers on June 25 and there were no overt warning signs in that form.

Holmes said he was not a user of illegal drugs or a convicted felon, so Rotkovich followed up by calling Holmes' apartment to invite him to a mandatory orientation the following week.

Rotkovich got Holmes' answering machine and says "it was bizarre - guttural, freakish at best."

According to Fox News, Rotkovich said he told his staff, "I'm not sure about this guy."

Rotkovich left two other messages but eventually told his staff to watch for Holmes at the July 1 orientation and not to accept him into the club.

Rotkovich says that Holmes' application indicated he was not prohibited by law from owning guns and that he was not a member of the National Rifle Association, Fox News reports.

Holmes is the suspect in the massacre that killed 12 and left 58 wounded at a screening of "The Dark Knight Rises" early Friday morning.

I do know that everyone who was blaming the NRA on other threads was obviously wrong, because he wasn't a member. But come on. Apparently the guy's answering machine was enough to bother people; the signs that something was wrong were clearly there. I really have no interest in hearing how "non-aggressive" he was in highschool, when he clearly had enough screws loose. He killed 12 people, including a 6-year-old. Quit ignoring the red flags that people show when they're on the verge of a breakdown and take them seriously.....you may end up saving lives.; Reply to this comment

As it is written....

"A well regulated Militia, being necessary to the security of a free State, the right of the people to keep and bear Arms, shall not be infringed."

That is why weapon owners need to be part of a well regulated militia.

- Title 10, Section 311 of the U.S. Code.

Do you now understand, read it again.....the right of the people to keep, not the right of the militia, the right of THE PEOPLE to keep, shall not be infringed, because we are the militia, the people.
