Amanda Knox Case: Italian court to hear acquittal appeal in March 2013

(CBS/AP) ROME - An Italian court in Perugia has set March 25, 2013 for the prosecution's appeal of Amanda Knox's acquittal in the 2007 murder of her British roommate Meredith Kercher.

The conviction of the American student and her former Italian boyfriend Raffaele Sollecito was overturned on appeal last year after the court ruled there was no conclusive evidence against the couple.

Knox's lawyer Carlo Dalla Vedova said Thursday that the hearing by Italy's highest appeals court would last no longer than a day. He said during the same hearing the court will consider Knox's appeal of her conviction for slander for falsely accusing a bar owner of being involved in the murder in the university town of Perugia.

Knox, now back in her Seattle home, reportedly signed a $4 million book deal in February.

Vedova acts like this is no big deal but it is actually make-or-break for Knox. The hearing may be only one day but the supreme court will have been studying the case for weeks. It's no wonder HarperCollins set the publication date for their Knox book well in advance.

by Stacyhs July 27, 2012 10:40 PM EDT: Knox is free and will remain free regardless of what the Court of Cassation determines. She has been acquitted of the crime of murder and, under double jeopardy, it's highly unlikely she'd be extradited to Italy to stand trial again.

If she had nothing to do with the murder, why did she admit to the police that she was present in the cottage during the murder?!

The Supreme Court of Italy threw out her statement as she was denied counsel and an official interpreter as required by law. She claims she was hit when she didn't answer according to the police's desires, lied to, and physically exhausted to the point she didn't know what was real or not real anymore.The man she said was responsible for killing Meredith was arrested later that day and he also claimed he was physically abused by being hit on the head, kicked, and otherwise abused by the police during his interrogation. Of course, all this could have been proven or disproven if the police had taped their interrogations as required by law. They failed to do so. Why?
