Casey Anthony lawyer Jose Baez on "bombshell" evidence jury never heard

(CBS) One year ago today, Jose Baez stood beside his client, Casey Anthony, in a Florida courtroom and waited for a jury to announce her fate. If found guilty of murdering her two-year-old daughter, Caylee, Anthony could face the death penalty. But she was spared. Just over three years after Caylee had disappeared, her mother was acquitted of murdering her.

On Thursday, Baez sat down with Crimesider to talk about what he calls "bombshell" evidence that was never revealed at trial, but which he writes about in his newly released book, "Presumed Guilty - Casey Anthony: The Inside Story." On June 16, 2008, the last day Caylee was seen alive, Baez says someone did a search on the Anthony family computer for "foolproof suffocation" and clicked onto a link for "venturing into the pro-suicide pit."

The defense's theory of how Caylee died was that the little girl drowned in the family pool on June 16 while both Casey and her father, George Anthony, were at home.

Baez readily admits that it's impossible to put anyone specific at the computer, but, he wonders in the book, could the search have been done by George, who in January 2009 actually did attempt suicide? The search, according to Baez, was done at 1:50 p.m. - that's an hour after Casey left home, according to what George Anthony told police.

by Laurie789 July 14, 2012 12:05 AM EDT: So Caylee supposedly drowns in the morning. They find her body--not days, but just a few hours later. They would have called an ambulance if it was only hours--they wouldn't have been able to tell by looking at her if it was 10 minutes or 4 hours. They would have called 911! And why on earth would they put duct tape on her face. If her mouth was hanging open it wouldn't have mattered to them. They just put her in bag after bag and tossed her in the woods after letting her body decompose in the car for God knows how long while Casey went out partying and enjoying her boyfrien. They are just lucky that there was nothing left except those bones strewn across the floor of the woods. Otherwise there could have been concrete proof she didn't drown and the defense couldn't throw imaginary scenarios out there to try to distract from the obvious truth.; Reply to this comment

Where did this supposed evidence come from, why now, right when his book is coming out! Please sign & share this petition, created 4/14/12, to have Casey Anthony tried by the federal government. The petition addresses the DOJ policy that guides them in determining whether or not to bring federal charges against someone who has previously been tried by a state.

So you want to waste more tax payer money on a federal trial that was not wasted in state court because you did not like the verdict. Yeah let us pile on some more national debt.

by gaerlic July 6, 2012 10:58 PM EDT: to bad that can be and will be considered double jeopardy as prescribed by the constitution of the United States to prevent that type of abuse, i am sorry but she was aquitted by a jury no other courts can now even touch her except for civil trial or she breaks another law. Even if the feds did, the Supreme court would throw it out based on that fact alone.


by strayze September 15, 2012 1:17 PM EDT: Federal Courts do not have jurisdiction for this case as this is not: a violation of the constitution; a bankruptcy case; violation of law on federal land; or a case based on state law that involves parties from different states.
