NYC man Jason Bohn accused of murdering ex-girlfriend Danielle Thomas in their apartment

(CBS/AP) NEW YORK - Police have arrested New York City man Jason Bohn for the beating and strangulation death of his ex-girlfriend, Danielle Thomas, in their Queens apartment, CBS New York reports.

Authorities say Bohn then posed as Thomas, sending texts from her cell phone.

District Attorney Richard A. Brown said Bohn surrendered Friday night in White Plains, according to The Associated Press.

Neighbors told CBS New York they found Thomas beaten and strangled in the pair's Astoria apartment, her body in the bathtub, surrounded by bags of ice. Brown told CBS New York that police believe Thomas was murdered sometime last weekend and then was kept in the tub.

Bohn allegedly called a police precinct on Tuesday to report that an "unconscious woman" was in his apartment, saying that he couldn't call 911 because he wasn't in the area.

Hours after she was killed, Bohn reportedly used Thomas' cell phone to send her friends several texts, pretending to be Thomas.

Police said they found two handwritten notes in their apartment. They said the first note read "it was an accident," according to CBS New York.

"I had been drinking and I was drunk when I got home. She was already asleep. I woke up and there was fighting between us, and when I woke up again she was unconscious. I am sorry," Bohn wrote in the first note.

The second note allegedly read, "Dani, I will love you forever."

Neighbors told CBS New York Thomas was previously staying at a battered woman's shelter, and they don't know why she returned to the apartment on the day she was killed. A prosecutor said that on June 7, Thomas went to a police station to report that she was assaulted when Bohn allegedly called her cell phone and threatened to "hunt her down" and "bash in her skull."

Bohn was arraigned Saturday afternoon in Queens on charges of murder and evidence tampering. He was held without bail. Bohn will appear in front of a grand jury later this week.

by ahendryx819 July 2, 2012 12:35 PM EDT: RIP to this poor girl. The terror she must have felt is unimaginable. I too have lost a loved one to domestic violence, and it can rip the family of the victim apart. I pray for her family, and I pray that they throw the book at this p.o.s scumbag.

I also want to say, before the ignorant, victim-blaming comments start, (Mari...) that it is NEVER the victim's fault. She did nothing to deserve this; he was the one who chose to commit murder, and he is the one who needs to pay for it. Please don't get on here and blame her, as is done on most of the stories like this. Violence is the result of nobody's choice except for the aggressor.; Reply to this comment
