Teen female couple shot in South Texas park, one dead, police say

(CBS/KZTV) PORTLAND, Texas - Police have not yet made any arrests in the weekend shooting of two south Texas teens at a Portland park. According to CBS affiliate KZTV, two visitors to the Violet Andrews Park found the women's bodies lying in the grass.

Mollie Judith Olgin,19, was pronounced dead at the scene and her apparent girlfriend, 18-year-old Mary Christine Chapa, was hospitalized with a gunshot wound to the head.

Chapa was reportedly listed in serious but stable condition.

KZTV reports investigators believe they teens were shot around midnight on Friday. They were found about 9 hours later Saturday morning.

According to the Corpus Christi Caller-Times, police say the women likely walked with their attacker down a trail and into knee deep grass. This is where authorities believe they were shot with a large caliber handgun.

Friends of the women said the two had been dating for about five months, KZTV reports.

Investigators reportedly do not believe this was a random incident but have not named a potential motive.

I for one am not going to make a fool of myself and start screaming "HATE CRIME!" from the rafters when we have no earthly idea how and why the crime occurred. I think I'll wait to at least find out WHO did it first. But then, I'm not an idiot.; Reply to this comment

by knucklecheese June 27, 2012 10:53 AM EDT: That's 100% true. But in today's America, we aren't governed by fairness, equality, or even common sense. We just allow lawmakers to make it up as they go along. They arbitrarily invent words, concepts, laws, precedents, and the like - completely fabricate them - and pass laws accordingly. Sadly, the blind followers of whichever party is in power at the time don't have the guts or integrity to stand up and say "Now, wait a minute..." because they fear they will be tagged an enemy of the party and not be considered "cool" anymore. It's just like Jr. High School really.

My visit to Tx. became a mild headache on arrival in 100 plus degree heat.
It was followed up with a dose of flash flood and almost as fast drought.
When I went to the Alamo, there was an old coot tellin the tourists there the story of the battle there. He lied a lot.
I let him know. I was followed by the local rangers there for the rest of the day.
Some time later I complained and was informed that he was not officially associated with the staff.
When I decided to pick up some tee shirts because I didn't get any at the store there, so I went to a mall near outside town.
I arrived to find the entire place empty of customers....I inquired the counter lady why?....
She told me that she was from NYC and that there was a gay march and the place was shunned.
I never realized just how ignorant some people are until then...

Let's wait until the investigators find out what happened. One of the girls is still alive and might have some answers for the Police. It may be their lifestyle choice has nothing to do with this.

That's the reason I left that miserable state more than 30 years ago. The killer was probably quoting from the bible at the same time he pulled the trigger. It's a sad country that does this and even sadder that we call such an uncivilized state a member of the United States.
