5-year-old girl calls 911, says daddy won't wake up; Pa. cops blame heroin

(CBS) UPPER DARBY, Penn. - A Pennsylvania man was charged with child endangerment after his 5-year-old daughter called 911 on Wednesday night and said her "daddy" had fallen off a chair and she couldn't wake him up.

When police arrived, they found Jason Feranti, 31, passed out from an alleged heroin overdose, reports the Philadelphia Daily News.

"A 5-year-old daughter witnessing her father overdosing on drugs - that's something she'll remember forever," Upper Darby Police Superintendent Michael Chitwood told the Philadelphia Daily News.

Police were able to shake Feranti awake, and allegedly found syringes, a bent spoon, cotton balls and plastic baggies on a nearby desk, reports the newspaper.

Feranti was also charged with recklessly endangering another person and drug charges.

The girl was placed with her grandmother and local children's services were contacted, according to the newspaper.

"The sad thing is, it just goes to show you the scourge of heroin abuse," Chitwood told the Daily News. "They don't care. What the hell happens if she gets a hold of the needle or swallows something?"

Until there are REAL consequences to their actions, people will never stop being dope-heads.

ANYONE, regardless of what kind of illegal drug they use or consume, should not be allowed to have children in their lives. None at home, no visitations, no nothing until they pop clean on every single drug test. That is the ONLY way we will ever be able to protect these babies from the stupidity of their 'parents' and the only way we will ever be able to get these idiots to wake up to what they are doing to their families.

Take the kids away before their parents do.

Addiction is a serious issue and people's children should not be taken away if they are addicts, for many recovering addicts their children are the motivation. You should not talk about a "solution" to the problem if you have never been in that situation. These people don't need their kids taken away, they need help, they are not bad people, they are sick people who need to be taught a new way of life. These children love their parents and want to be in their lives and it does end up hurting the kids if they are stripped from their parents. You think no visitation is only hurting the parents? Well you are sadly mistaken.
