Cops look for more witnesses of naked face-chewing attack

(CBS/WFOR/AP) MIAMI - Miami police are asking anyone who may have witnessed the bizarre scene of a naked man biting the face of another nearly naked man on Saturday to come forward, reports CBS Miami.

An officer came across the men on the MacArthur Causeway shortly after 2 p.m., when police responded to a 911 call about two naked men fighting on a bike path near the Miami Herald building.

The officer tried to stop the fight and ordered the assailant to stop chewing on the other man's face. When he refused to stop and reportedly turned toward the officers and growled, the officer fatally shot him. The medical examiner identified the dead man as 31-year old Rudy Eugene.

Eugene's victim, who has not been identified, is in critical condition at a hospital.

Eugene is believed to have been homeless. His last address is a home in North Miami Beach. The current residents said they didn't know Eugene, but neighbors remember him.

"The only thing I remember was he was a quiet boy," said Micheline Barret.

Barret said Eugene moved out several years ago, but she never forgot him the boy she used to give rides to when he needed it.

Eugene reportedly had several previous run-ins with police, mostly for drug related offenses, trespassing and resisting arrest without violence.

Ives Eugene, 55, told the Associated Press that he was Rudy Eugene's uncle, and described his nephew as a "nice and hard-working" man who washed cars at a local dealership.

In a telephone interview, Ives Eugene said his nephew had asked his girlfriend to borrow her car, but she said no.

"So he rode the bicycle, and he never came back home," Ives Eugene told the Associated Press.

Rudy Eugene's ex-wife declined to speak about her ex-husband or the alleged cannibal incident.

by margroks May 31, 2012 2:06 PM EDT: No, it's not liberals who are sympathetic to this guy. I'm liberal and I'm not in the least sympathetic so stop yammering on repeating such slander. What I do want to know why these freaks are being let out on the street when people should have known they were drugged up and dangerous? Running around naked committing mayhem is out of control and relatives need to step up and warn police of their crazy relation. The guy in Seattle was whacko and should never have been allowed near a gun. His family should have notified police or the coffee house peiople should have notified the police of his beligerant behavior. In Indiana, people watched while severl guys fought and eventually one stangled another and he drowned when he was thrown off the pier. People stood by saying boys will be boys (idiotic) when they should have done something. It's time people start stepping up and complaining to police when violent jerks are observed. Those of you who have empathy for the killer are simply fake.......I can guarantee it. You would be saying all the nasty things also if it had been your kid or husband who had their face eaten off. What is it about religious people? Do they really think we buy their pious crap?

Had I come across this scene, I would likely have unloaded my entire clip on the attacker before a rational thought could even begin to cross my mind.

by angelshain May 29, 2012 3:44 PM EDT: You are missing some of the story, this man was chewing on another man's face. The victim had lost an eye, his lips, his ears, and most of his face. The cop shot this guy once in an appendage, but the guy kept eating the victim's face. It did not even phase him. The cop had no choice but to end this cannibalistic attack.

The victim is still in very critical condition: the last report I read state he was "Extremely Critical", so IF A PERSON's LIFE IS AT RISK, I don't think there's any question!! The policeman did order the attacker to stop, the guy had a chance and a choice first. These cop-haters can't even read the story before start blasting away at how stupid the cops are. And because they don't bother to read or think, I have my own opinions on who is being stupid.
