Cops look for more witnesses of naked face-chewing attack

(CBS/AP) MIAMI - Police in Florida have identified the naked man who they say officers fatally shot after he refused to stop eating another naked man's face on a downtown Miami highway ramp.

Officials are now looking for more witnesses to fill in the blanks on what led to the grisly scene in which a witness reported that a man - identified as Rudy Eugene, 31 - savagely chewed on another man's face and growled when an officer kept telling him to stop.

"We know that there were many people on the MacArthur Causeway and we're hoping they come forward," Detective William Moreno told The Miami Herald on Monday.

Witness Larry Vega was riding his bicycle Saturday afternoon off the MacArthur Causeway that connects downtown Miami with Miami Beach when he saw the savage attack.

"The guy was, like, tearing him to pieces with his mouth, so I told him, 'Get off!'" Vega told Miami television station WSVN. "The guy just kept eating the other guy away, like, ripping his skin."

Vega flagged down a Miami police officer, who he said repeatedly ordered the attacker to get off the victim. The attacker just picked his head up and growled at the officer, Vega said. As the attack continued, Vega said the officer shot the attacker, who continued chewing the victim's face. The officer fired again, killing the attacker.

A surveillance video camera from The Miami Herald building nearby captured images of the men's naked legs lying side by side after the shooting.

"It was just a blob of blood," Vega said. "You couldn't really see, it was just blood all over the place."

Miami police have released few details about the weekend attack, other than confirming that there was a fatal officer-involved shooting. The victim of the bizarre attack, who has not been identified, was hospitalized in critical condition.

I find it funny that the police changed thier story 3 times. First it was cocaine, then LSD, now bath crystals, mind you bath crystals have been banned in FL since 2011. This man had no money, no car, and was homeless due to his home going into forclosure. I digged some more info about this, and maybe you all should do the same before assuming its drugs. There has not been an autopsy on the attacker's body yet, so how are these cops getting this information without checking what was in his system first?

by WolfHeartSong June 2, 2012 11:25 AM EDT: lets face it... it don't matter if its drugs or not, we will never know until its too late... the report is drugs...and thats the only answer we will get....as far as dude being homeless, junkies can get their junk...even if they live on the streets....the only thing we can do is lock and load so to speak... in other words keep our eyes open and just pray for thee best... and if it is drugs how about really cracking down on drugs now.. i mean if we got stuff out there making people eat other people then maybe we should start pusdhing for tougher cops and laws and stop all this hand holding bleeding heart crap.....eye for an eye or shall we wait until we have a real zombie war on our hands?

Why is it all this insane stuff happens in Florida? Is it the heat? Is it the wackos of the country end up down there on their way to self-destruction? Porn actors murdering tattoo artists, heinous child killers, and now zombie face-eating bath-salt snorting crazies...too much!

by rainbowroosie May 29, 2012 3:57 PM EDT: You need to live in S.Florida...no jobs, crumbling real estate market, worst public schools outside Mississippi, rudest people in the WORLD, run dodge and jump during rush hour traffic, corruption at levels that rival Chicago, 20 cosmetic surgeons for every 20 people, English is a second language, $12 drinks at bars, 90% of BMWs and Mercedes rented not owned, 90 year old people driving and texting at the same time, and nice beaches. A low stress environment.....

Does this seem like a callous statement? Or, humor? How about a sense of the blog community on one person's humor being outrageous to another's. In that case, should humor be censored?? Police officer needs to be disciplined, he could have saved society a great deal of time and money if he had just shot the crazy SOB.
