Hazing probe of girls' soccer team at Joliet, Ill. high school

Joliet West High School in suburban Chicago, where members of the girls' soccer team are being investigated for alleged hazing.

(CBS) JOLIET, Ill. - Officials in the Joliet Township school system are investigating hazing allegations against members of the girls' soccer team at Joliet West High School.

CBS Chicago reports pictures circulating online of one alleged target showed the victim being wrapped with plastic wrap.

The alleged hazing happened over the weekend at a tournament in Freeport, about 100 miles northwest of Chicago.

"We along with Joliet Police are investigating," said Freeport Police Department Deputy Chief Jeff Davis. "Whatever happened, happened in our jurisdiction."

He said if the investigation warrants, they'll pass it onto the State Attorney's Offices.

"Hazing/initiation is not tolerated," Joliet Township High School said in a statement on Wednesday," adding the school "immediately began to investigate," CBS Chicago reported.

"I was just disgusted to find out this type of thing happened," said Xochilt Correa, a mother who was at Joliet West Wednesday picking up her kids. "If it sends a message, then it sends the right message that it will not be tolerated."

CBS Chicago says at least one target of the alleged hazing may have been force-fed soap.

by gotanopinion750 May 7, 2012 10:23 PM EDT: Listen, I am not sure what you think would change everyone's mind, but those images are far beyond disturbing. The girls being wrapped and force fed soap didn't look like they were having fun. Hazing is the dumbest thing on the planet. Its like the first post, you are supposed to be welcoming and big sister like to new comers. This is just another form of bullying if you ask me. by clod85 May 5, 2012 9:47 AM EDT: If you want to print something positive about girls soccer in the Joliet/ Chicagoland soccer area...Not only is Plainfield North girls soccer team winning their games as shown on last night's Comcast game of the Week but all 6 seniors are High Honor Roll students who maintain above 5.0 Grade point, National Honor society students, all intend to play soccer in college while majoring in hard subjects. Most of their teammates also have high GPA's. They welcome their Freshman soon after they make the team with posters displaying positive messages and leaving bags filled with candy etc. on their front doorsteps.; Reply to this comment


by JazminGracie May 4, 2012 3:46 PM EDT: I would like to start off by the news cast and parents (some) are blowing this way out of porportion. I actually attend West High School and people I know are on the team. The way they are putting this is not even true. If it was hazing, wrong, and not fun for ALL the girls, the coach would have not let that happened. Cbs doesn't even know the whole story. They sat in their trucks all day on their smartphones with the money they get for putting garbage like this on tv. As we can see, it's never good to assume.; Reply to this comment
