George Zimmerman's fundraising website is shut down

(CBS/AP) ORLANDO, Fla. - The website George Zimmerman set up to help raise money for his legal defense in the Trayvon Martin shooting case has been taken down.

The website, www.therealgeorgezimmerman.com was no longer functioning as of Tuesday.

It was created almost two weeks ago by Zimmerman's family to thank his supporters and to receive donations from anyone who wanted to help with his legal defense.

Zimmerman is charged with second-degree murder in the shooting death of the 17-year-old Martin in February. He has pleaded not guilty and is claiming self-defense.

He was released from jail on Sunday after posting a $150,000 bond and has gone back into hiding.

A call to Zimmerman's attorney, Mark O'Mara, wasn't immediately returned on Wednesday.

O'Mara has hinted that he will ask Zimmerman to be declared indigent. That would allow taxpayers to pay for his legal bills. Any income from the website would make that process more difficult.

by andie52 April 26, 2012 5:47 AM EDT: That bully wasn't expecting a physical confrontation so he didn't foresee an issue with following and arguing with a teen-he should have identified himself and perhaps things would have gone differently-bottom line- he killed 17 year old kid when he should have just kept driving to the supermarket- he wasn't even suppose to be on patrol that evening or carrying a gun to do so.

Nocturnal gang bangers prowl dimly lit streets searching for brave seniors taking a night stroll. Secondly, you don't know that Trayvon WAS a gangster...NOW who sounds racist? And last of all, what would YOU have done if you had been confronted by someone who was obviously stalking you after dark? The only one who was defending himself was Trayvon. This poster is right; people like you, who would rather donate to a murderer than a homeless person are the problem.
