(CBS/WCBS) NEW YORK - What would you do for an iPad?
Police say two officers were injured Wednesday afternoon while apprehending a chatty iPad theft suspect at a Manhattan subway station.
According to CBS New York, police say two officers spotted a man matching the description of a suspect wanted for allegedly stealing an iPad from a store on Mulberry Street. An employee had told officers a man walked into the store and snagged her iPad from a counter before fleeing.
Police broadcast the suspect's description over the department radio the two officers saw the suspect getting off the train with the iPad in his hand, police reportedly said.
CBS New York reports that when the man saw the officers looking at him, he apparently asked them, "Why are you guys looking at me like I just stole this iPad?"
The officers reportedly gave chase after the suspect, identified as 22-year-old Kevin Chavis.
Police say Chavis fought the officers before finally being subdued, CBS New York reports. Chavis has been charged with assaulting a police officer, resisting arrest, petit larceny, criminal mischief, criminal possession of stolen property and obstructing governmental administration, police said.
The arresting officers, Sgt. Antoine Ducret and Officer Joseph Dellauniversita, were reportedly taken to hospitals to be treated for minor injuries.
