Three people killed at day care in Minnesota suburb, police say
Three people were fatally shot Monday in an in-home day care in a suburb northwest of Minneapolis.
/ CBS MinnesotaPolice released few details about the 6:30 a.m. shootings in Brooklyn Park. Inspector Todd Milburn told The Star Tribune that three people were found shot to death in the home but offered no further details.
The newspaper also reported that dozens of officers and police dogs were hunting for a suspect.
CBS Minnesota reports dispatch initially reported it was a triple shooting but police have not said if the victims were shot or how they died.
Police say the case is now being investigated as a homicide. They say no other members of the public are in danger.
Records kept by the state Department of Human Services show the residential child care center was licensed for up to 12 children. The license holder, Delois Brown, was working under a license that would expire in February 2013. There were no indications of adverse rulings affecting the day care nor any special restrictions.
The shootings prompted a precautionary lockdown of the nearby Hennepin Technical College. Officials began allowing students to leave the school a few hours after the shootings and the campus remained closed.
The suspect is described by police as a black man in his mid-20s and riding a BMX-style bicycle. He was wearing blue jeans, a navy blue sweatshirt with a gray hood and two 1-inch stripes down the back. Anyone with information is asked to call police at 763-493-8222.
