William Balfour, suspect in Hudson family murders, solicited false alibi, prosecutors say

/ AP Photo/Ill. Dept. of CorrectionsIn a court filing, Cook County prosecutors said they want to call the woman, Brittany Acoff-Howard, to testify at the April trial of William Balfour, who was the estranged husband of Hudson's sister, Julia.
Prosecutors have asked Judge Charles Burns to send a certificate to Berkeley County, South Carolina. This is where Acoff-Howard now lives and the certifiicate would name her as a material witness. However, The Chicago Tribune reports prosecutors believe she may be hostile to the prosecution. On Friday, Burns signed a certificate stating Acoff-Howard had failed a polygraph examination last December.
Balfour, 30, is scheduled to go on trial next month in the 2008 slayings of Jennifer Hudson's mother, Darnell Donerson, 57; brother, Jason Hudson, 29; and nephew, Julian King, 7. Prosecutors allege that Balfour was angry his wife, wanted out of their relationship and jealous she was seeing another man.
