Teen Ohio mom, baby found shot to death alongside ex-boyfriend

(CBS/AP) CLEVELAND - Cleveland police say a wanted man kidnapped his estranged girlfriend and her 1-year-old at gunpoint, and all three were found shot to death hours later.

Police said the couple had dated for about two months and that the woman, Latasha Jackson, 19, was trying to end the relationship.

Jackson and her young daughter Chaniya Wynn were walking with Jackson's 14-year-old brother around noon Saturday when they encountered the man, Thomas Lorde. Jackson's brother said Lorde pulled out a gun and ordered him to walk away, according to police. The girl's father told police Lorde said he was going to kill Jackson and take the child.

Jackson, the baby and Lorde's bodies were found early Sunday in the closed garage of an unoccupied building, said police Sgt. Sammy Morris. It appeared that Lorde shot himself in the head, but the county coroner had not yet determined the causes of death.

Lorde was described as a violent sexual predator with outstanding felony warrants in New York.

Read these local comments about this abduction, it's pathetic:

1) Has an Amber Alert over radio or TV successfully worked in finding a missing person?

I was listening to the radio while driving when the EAS tones went off on Clear Channel stations (105.7, 100.7, 98.5...). There was no "amber alert" details on the first couple attempts. The EAS tones went off...there was "dead air" and the closing EAS tones concluded the warning.

Eventually (like 3 attempts later) an EAS tone went went off, a "representative" gave some barely audible details that an Amber Alert had been issued (was the guy on his cell phone?) and it "successfully" concluded.

2) If you think the radio "alert" was bad, you should have seen the Emergency Alert crawl that was on Time-Warner Cable. It said there was an abduction, but didn't say where or who to contact and, initially said the alert would expire at 16:01 which later was updated to 18:03. No mention of an Amber Alert. The whole thing resembled a weather warning. Whoever was in charge of putting that on the air, unless there was an overwhelming circumstance, should be fired.

3) On AT&T UVerse, when the warning tone went off the onscreen prompt was "exit message" or "open interactive weather." Also, the dead air described above was also played after the TV alert tone.

So I googled "amber alert ohio" and landed on the webpage http://www.ohioamberplan. org/

At 3pm this afternoon, THERE WAS NOTHING POSTED on the above website. So as the above comments noted, radio and TV broadcasts were made with no details and even if you bothered to check the state website you would have found NOTHING.

Hey PD, why don't you check out who was supposed to make sure those broadcasts were made correctly, and when the above website was actually updated with the info.
