Ex-"Survivor" producer Bruce Beresford-Redman ordered to stand trial in Mexico for wife's murder

(CBS/AP) CANCUN, Mexico - A judge in Mexico has ruled that there is enough evidence to compel former "Survivor" producer Bruce Beresford-Redman to stand trial for the April 2010 murder of his wife.

Beresford-Redman has been in U.S. custody for more than a year and was extradited to Mexico on Feb. 8. He maintains his innocence.

Prosecutors believe Beresford-Redman lured his wife of 11 years, Monica Beresford-Redman, to Mexico on the pretense of trying to save their marriage. They say he killed her, then left the country with their two children. He was arrested in Los Angeles in November

Her body was found naked and beaten in a sewer at a Cancun hotel three days after her husband reported her missing.

"It was a relief. We have been waiting for that for two years," Carla Burgos, the victim's sister, said last week, reports CBS Los Angeles. "It has been hell. It has been so difficult."

Beresford-Redman's attorney, Carlos Grajales, said his client fainted when he heard the news he was to stand trial.

"We will immediately appeal the decision and prepare the paperwork to present it in 48 hours...we think the case was not properly studied by the state judge. We will have to appeal to federal authorities who are unbiased," said Grajales.
