Suspect arrested in gay Ga. man's videotaped beating
(CBS/AP) ATLANTA - Atlanta police have arrested a suspect in the brutal beating of a 20-year-old gay man that was captured on video.
Christopher Cain, 18, was charged with aggravated assault and robbery in the Feb. 4 attack on Brandon White outside an Atlanta store, police spokesman Carlos Campos said Saturday.
Police are still seeking two other suspects in the attack. Their names haven't been released but Campos says police expect to make more arrests soon, according to CBS affiliate WGCL.
The video shows three men beating White after he walked out of McDaniel Street grocery store in southwest Atlanta, with a barrage of punches, kicks and even a tire.
Federal authorities are investigating the attack as a possible hate crime. Gay slurs are heard in the video as White is beaten. White told reporters that he shouldn't have to fear for his life because he is gay.
At a rally Saturday, community residents turned out in cold weather to support White. U.S. Rep. John Lewis denounced the attack saying, "We all must respect the dignity and the worth of every human being."
