Congressional candidate's aide finds cat dead with "Liberal" spray painted on its side

(CBS/AP) LITTLE ROCK, Ark. - The campaign manager for a Democratic congressional hopeful in Arkansas says he found his family's cat slaughtered and the word "liberal" spray painted on its side.

CNN reports candidate Ken Aden told the network on Monday that the cat of Jacob Burris, who works for Aden, was found on Burris' doorstep on Sunday.

Burris was with his four children when they found their dead cat on the porch of his Russellville home. A spokesman with the Russellville Police Department confirmed that Burris had filed a report, but said as of then there were no suspects.

Burris said that he had not received any threats leading up to Sunday's incident. He has worked for Aden in his bid for Arkansas' 3rd Congressional District since the fall.

"What's unsettling to me is that it doesn't matter what your political beliefs are, as grown adults we should be able to sit down and have a good discussion about the issues," Aden said. "This is a great district. There are so many great folks here, but there are also some disturbed people in the world, too," he added.

The cat was found with its head bashed in, according to a news release from Aden's website.

The Russellville Police Department was investigating the incident as a case of animal cruelty and a report was made to the FBI on Monday morning, Aden's website said.

Joshua McMillian, public information officer for Russellville police, said there are no witness statements on concrete evidence at the scene.

"We're asking the public if they know anything about it," McMillian said.

The U.S. Animal Humane Society is offering a $2,500 reward for the arrest and conviction of the person or people responsible.

Disgusting human beings. They say they're for family values, but then they attack children on their own doorstep. They say they're tough on terrorists, but they'll terrorize US citizens without hesitation. They say they're pro-life, but the truth is, they're only for the lives that they deem worthy of existing. I was on the fence with my vote, but this just sealed the deal.

This is another example of why one should never leave loved ones outdoors and unattended. I have raised indoor cats all of my life and never allowed them outside unattended. The owners are as much to blame as the perpetrator(s).

This could happen anywhere, but this did happen in a place with a predominantly high rate of mentally challenged people. Yes, I would say the same for any other state in that region.

Don't leave precious pets outside unattended. There are twisted morons in the world who will get their comeuppance in the end. It is important that we not stoop to the level of the perpetrator(s) by wanting to do the same to them. However, they should get life in prison.

We had hope & change, those that claim to be patriots fought, filibustered, & obstructed every reconstruction bill, in hopes that it would some how "Defeat this president," while holding America hostage to fan the flames they already set.

Hard to have a conversation when on side thinks it is OK to take what one person has earned through the government and give to to another who hasn't earned.

I completely agree. All of those big money welfare and handout programs should be cut.

-preferential 15% tax rate on the salaries of hedge fund managers, a.k.a. carried interest, costing the government billions of dollars in tax revenue

-hundreds of millions of dollars in subsidies to giant profitable agribusineeses

-billions of dollars in subsidies to giant profitable oil companies

-hundreds of billions of dollars in no-bid contracts to well-connected war contractors

My guess is that you will defend *these* handouts, but not handouts to *those* people you don't like.

This abhorrent conduct is the result of the divisive politics practiced by a framented country, ie., left vs. right, 1% vs. 99%, one religion vs. another, gays vs. straights, etc. The country has been Balkenized. As a result, people are now behaving as the people in the "stan" (Turkistan, Pakistan, Afganistan, etc.)countries behave. What happened to hope and change?

"Left vs. right?" The "Left" left us with a Record Economy, Peace, Record Home Sales, Record Jobs, Education, People Off of Welfare & unemployment, & a Surplus, & were fought most of the way. There was no "1%" holding most of the U.S. wealth. The Right left us with What? Only One Party was & is still forcing their faith into the separation of church & state. The Christian Right! Before they were Installed, we were'nt in Debt to Communist China. Now those that were in lock step with bush, fight Hope, Change, & the Clean Up Crew, & Blame Obama! Prove me wrong.

We can also rack this up to a competitive game mentality, us vs. them, fueled by sports, big business, etc. Blend that with mentally challenged and uneducated people, and voila, we get abhorrent acts as this. In fact, people who kill animals are more likely to kill people. For some reason these idiots didn't think that an animal is just as important as a human, and therefore okay to murder. This mindset comes from a violent meat eating society that must abolish animal cruelty and industry in order to heal and see true change.
