Teen Fla. police impostor has bond revoked
Matthew Scheidt
(Credit: CBS/WKMG)The Orlando Sentinel reports Matthew Scheidt will be brought back to the county jail as soon as he can be released from a lockup in Miami-Dade, where he is being held after his arrest for impersonating a police officer last week.
Osceola County Circuit court judge Jon Morgan revoked the bail this morning for Scheidt on his arrest for posing as a physician assistant at Osceola Regional Medical center. The judge made the move after the State Attorney's Office presented concerns about the suspect being a threat to the community following his arrest Thursday for pretending to be a cop.
Scheidt was taken into custody after he allegedly pulled up next to an undercover cop and conducted himself as an officer. He had all the equipment needed to masquerade as an undercover cop, records show.
Scheidt had allegedly previously deceived Kissimmee hospital workers into letting him perform cardiopulmonary resuscitation on a patient in cardiac arrest.
When arrested in South Florida last Thursday, he was wearing and carrying numerous police items, including an Osceola County sheriff's badge, deputies' T-shirts, a .380-caliber Ruger handgun loaded with hollow-point bullets, a Taser X26 stun gun, a folding knife, handcuffs, a Motorola police radio and an ankle holster, records show.
One of Scheidt's attorneys, Mark Longwell, said he intends to enter a not guilty plea and pursue a jury trial.
"It is important that we all respect the constitutional principles of the presumption of innocence and due process," Longwell told the Orlando Sentinel.
