(CBS) NEW YORK - Marion Salmon Hedges, the woman hit by a shopping cart pushed over a fourth floor railing outside of a Target in Harlem, was technically dead at the scene and revived by a doctor who happened to be nearby.

According to the New York Post, a law enforcement source says Hedges wasn't breathing and had no pulse, but the doctor managed to resuscitate her using CPR.

Hedges, a real estate broker and volunteer with several charity organizations, had gone to the discount store at a shopping plaza in East Harlem to purchase Halloween candy, when she was hit by the cart thrown by two 12-year-old boys, her friends and family have said.

Guarav Patel, a resident at New York Hospital who happened to be nearby, managed to revived Hedges, the Post reports.

The 47-year-old was in a medically induced coma for a period of time after the cart fell on her. She will need months of rehabilitation, her husband said.

The two boys pleaded guilty to assault last month. They are charged as juveniles and could get up to 18 months in a juvenile facility, with that sentence extended annually until they are 18-years-old.
