Deputies caught a burglary suspect Wednesday after the teenager called authorities from his bed around 11 a.m. Lt. John McBride said the boy called 911, saying he heard someone break into the home in Valina.
The boy told the emergency dispatcher he heard a window break and believed someone was in his home. As the burglar gets closer, the boy whispers, "He's coming," and the dispatcher tells the boy to hide under some sheets.
CBS Los Angeles reports the boy grabbed the portable phone, ran to his bed and hid under the sheets. He gave updates to the dispatcher as police approached his residence. At one point the suspect was going through the same room where the boy was hiding, McBride said.
Police saw the intruder inside, and as they approached the front door, they were greeted by the suspect who acted as if he lived in the house. Thanks to the telephoning teen, deputies knew that wasn't true.
Police arrested 42-year-old Aurelio Hernandez, of Valinda, and he is being held on $50,000 bail.
