Police: Woman murders grandmother, steals TV for drug money

(CBS/AP) CINCINNATI - An Ohio woman is accused of beating her 86-year-old grandmother to death and stealing her TV to sell it for drug money.

CBS Cleveland reports Aisha Sanders, 24, was indicted Thursday on aggravated murder and other charged in southwest Ohio.

The victim, Mary Muah, was found dead in her home on Dec. 20. The indictment states she died between Dec. 16 and Dec. 20, prosecutor's spokesman Greg Flannagan said.

Prosecutors said Sanders sold her grandmother's TV to get money for drugs and took her grandmother's car. Law enforcement officials found her in that car, which had run out of gas.

Prosecutor Mat Heck Jr. said in a news release, "The defendant robbed and killed her own elderly grandmother, in order to obtain money to buy illegal drugs."

Sanders remained in jail Thursday with her bail set at $1 million.

An arraignment hearing has been scheduled for Jan. 3 in Montgomery County Common Pleas Court.

by jechrist January 1, 2012 11:59 AM EST: the dealers would have no customers if people would stop using. think about it. the dealers are not the biggest problem...their fine customers are. i hope the blood she shed in killing her own grandma falls on her dealer too. it will be answered for. stop using people, stop being used by dealers and the war on drugs will be won. self respect will take you a long way from drugs. God help anyonne who would kill kin for drugs. i had to protect my mom from my brother for this reason. i know of what i'm speaking about. God help us all.; Reply to this comment

In addition to the many societal costs of prohibition, it has a long history of driving the spread of harder or more dangerous drugs.

* Poppies to morphine to heroine to krokodil
* Coca to cocaine to crack
* Ephedra to ephredrine to speed to methamphetamine
* Marijuana to skunk to dangerous synthetic concoctions such as 'spice' or 'bath salts'
* Mushrooms to ecstasy to 2CB/designers

At every step the reasons for the rise in popularity of the new form of the drug are one or more of the following:

* It may easier to smuggle.
* It may be more addictive, thus compelling the buyer to return more frequently.
* It may be cheaper to produce therefore yielding more profit.
* Like a game of "whack a mole" a shutdown of producers in one area will mean business opportunities for another set of producers with a similar product.

Prohibition's distortion of the immutable laws of supply and demand subsidizes organized crime, foreign terrorists, corrupt cops & politicians and feeds the prejudices of self-appointed culture warriors. So called Tough-On-Drugs politicians have happily built careers on confusing drug prohibition's horrendous collateral damage with the substances that they claim to be fighting, while the big losers in this battle are everybody else, especially taxpayers.

How come so many of us have been deluded into believing that big government is the appropriate response to non-traditional consensual vices?

Imagine if we were to chop down every single tree on the planet as a response to our failure to prevent tree-climbing accidents. That's what our misguided drug policy looks like. Isn't it time we all should up and told the government we're tired of being beaten and jailed so that pharmaceutical companies can poison and kill us for obscene profits?

BTW, regarding the war on drugs: How can we still be fighting a war we've already lost?

Yeah, it's time to knock of the BS. Legalize recreational chemicals and 99% of this type of behavior will stop.

Then, when there is a violent criminal who should be locked up for good, they are offered a plea deal, because there's no room for them in prison.

They have mandatory minimum sentences for nonviolent drug offenses, when are they gonna come up with mandatory minimums for murder?...

A program where if an addict is so desparate to even consider an act like this one, can instead go to a hospital and get 1 dose of their drug of choice in return for being locked in rehab for 90 days. Chances are they will choose the immediate high and deal with the rest later - just like they have always done.; Reply to this comment
