TSA: Daggers hidden in book at Reagan Airport

(CBS/AP) WASH, D.C. - The Transportation Security Administration says officers found two throwing daggers hidden in a hollowed-out book at a checkpoint at Reagan-Washington National Airport.

What could be more suspicious these days than a person with an actual book?

A TSA spokesman says a passenger was stopped Monday when officers found the knives in the person's carry-on bag during X-ray screening, CBS affiliate WUSA reported. The daggers measured just over a half-foot long and were hidden in the hard-cover book.

The passenger was flying to Chicago and surrendered the knives and book.

WUSA reports there are no plans to file charges, since investigators determined the passenger was not a security threat.

Why the person was transporting the knives hasn't been made clear.

So they are saying the perp was white and male, probably with a "good" job? If he was anything resembling a terrorist or other stereotypical criminal profile, he'd be in jail now.; Reply to this comment

TSA, when asked what they do, shows us things...some weapons, but mainly nail files, scissors and oversize shampoo bottles..but no terrorists. It is time to stop the nonsense and demand that the entire TSA operation be refocussed on air travel security and stop the collection of things that do not matter.; Reply to this comment

"The daggers measured just over a half-foot long"... that's 6 inches for those of you that went to public school. Making the blades 4" or less... not even considered a weapon in a lot of jurisdictions. Big deal.

And yes, I can kill you with a 4" blade. I can cause serious harm with an even smaller blade.
