Child abuse charges for man who allegedly bound toddler with tape, posted photos to Facebook

Andre Curry is facing child abuse charges after allegedly taking a photograph of his one-year-old daughter bound in tape and posting it on Facebook.

(CBS/AP) CHICAGO - A man who allegedly took a photograph of his one-year-old daughter bound in tape then posted it on Facebook with the caption, "This is wut happens wen my baby hits me back," is now facing child abuse charges.

Andre Curry, 21, is charged with aggravated domestic battery and scheduled for a bond hearing Wednesday. Police say he used painter's tape to bind the girl's wrists and ankles and cover her mouth.

According to a Chicago police spokesperson, the department learned of the photograph - which has since been taken off Facebook - on December 14 and opened an investigation in cooperation with the Department of Children and Family Services.

CBS Chicago reports that several Facebook friends posted comments about the photo, including one who calls Curry a "nasty dirty child abuser," and another who claims she called DCFS and alerted them to the photo.

Meanwhile, a DCFS spokesman said the agency has had no prior contact with the family.

by FACEITT December 24, 2011 10:52 PM EST: Watch and see if DFCS doesn't put this child back in his custody after he takes 1 class on parenting to "keep the family together". If this child lives beyond 3 years, it will be a miracle and if DFCS puts her back in his or the mother's custody and something fatal happens to her, the social worker and the judge who allowed it should be arrested, tried and put in prison. this is disgusting on so many levels. people wouldn't treat a dog this way. the spca would impound the dog. i hope this many loses custody of this child. put her where she can be loved and held. the fact that he felt that putting the picture on facebook shows he does not know the difference between right and wrong. what else goes on in her life that is not photographed.

I must ask one question that no one wants to deal with. What was this man's childhood like. Was he himself a victim of child abuse?

Most of the people who commit these heinous crimes share one common trait. They were victims of child abuse. This information is nothing new. I've known this for about 30 years. (I retired in 2007 after spending a lifetime teaching in inner city schools.)

Abused children need intensive psychological therapy. These threapies exist. To be sure, it costs money to do this. Right now the GOP is blocking funds that would provide this sort of treatment.

But what is more important - a tax cut for a billionaire or therapy for an abused child? The more abused children we treat the less child abuse in the future,and the less money we need to spend on maximum security prisons.

Let's make child abuse a crime of the past.

There's a subtle message there that is saying this only happens in the inner city. So how do you explain all those suburban kids who have killed so many of their schoolmates. According to your analysis, they weren't abused as children although statistics bear out that more child abuse and child molesting goes on in more suburban and upper middle class familes than in inner city families. How did you miss that or was it on purpose? Did you also analyze the Columbine Killers, who didn't come from an abused household or the inner city. If this is how you feel, I wonder if you didn't do a disservice to the children you taught by staying so long. I wonder what damage you did to them with your "inner city" attitude. I do agree with you, however, on ending child abuse BUT that is no excuse for continuing the abuse when one becomes an adult and knows right from wrong.
