Amber Alert cancelled for missing NJ girls, father hiding in NY motel

(CBS/AP) OLD BRIDGE TOWNSHIP, N.J. - A man accused of killing his ex-wife and then abducting their two young children has been found in an Orange County motel in New York with the two daughters.

CBS New York reports Anthony Trapp, 39, has barricaded himself inside the Bear Mountain Inn, but has released his two daughters to police officers.

Police moved in after he released the girls unharmed. So far, there's been no sign of Anthony Trapp.

News footage from News 12 New Jersey showed police tossing some type of stun grenade into the motel room in Fort Montgomery, N.Y, about 40 miles north of New York City.

An Amber Alert was issued for 5-year-old Emma Trapp and her sister, 20-month-old Sophia after police found the girls' mother stabbed to death in his Old Bridge Township home Thursday.

According to authorities, Anthony Trapp is accused of stabbing his ex-wife when she arrived at his home to pick up their two girls.

He then kidnapped the two girls and took off in his ex-wife's car, detectives say.

The Amber Alert was cancelled just before 8 a.m., about six hours after it was issued.

Family members are now on their way to Orange County to pick up the two children, police say.

Everyone should have control of their actions no matter what, and killing someone is an unacceptable reaction to losing a court case, if that's even what happened. This has absolutely nothing to do with holding the judges accountable for being too hard on those 'poor' men, but it does have everything to do with that man taking the life of his wife.

I just want to know how many more men are going to kill their ex-wives, current wives, girlfriends, etc.????? It is an epidemic lately. I know there are women who kill men, but it's mostly men killing women. Just awful that people are capable of this. So sad for the kids.

by augustus66 December 16, 2011 12:29 PM EST: It is sad and revolting, but it is becoming more endemic in this society. Especially with the court systems now & how they rule (& the laws are written. The pendulum has swung too far and most of these men just "flip out" out in utter despair and grief.

Sure there are those random nut jobs who do this, but when you examine the data, you'll see that an alarming # or % of these types of cases are a result of a BITTERLY contested divorce or custody battles, where the man was loosing (justly or unjustly) significant $'s, property, rights, and or time/visits with his children. They either have just lost the case or feel they are about to,,...and them blam,.. they either kill the wife, do something w/ or to the kids, and or kill themselves.

We need to hold the judicial system & judges a little more culpable here. They can see this stuff/situations brewing & boiling. They should a.) come up with ways to mitigate the impact & reduce the boiling point on these proceedings as they are transpiring and b.) come up with some more fair & equitable solutions in many more cases that warrant it. Instead of it usually being and "all or nothing" outcome that most lawyers push for... (btw, of course I'm aware that sometimes people are just).
