Police: North Carolina students robbed at gunpoint in dorm room
Fayetteville State University
(Credit: CBS/WRAL)Fayetteville State University spokesman Jeff Womble said that four to six men broke into a dorm around 2 a.m. and physically assaulted two students, taking $500, a debit card, a computer, clothing and tennis shoes. The students apparently opened their door when someone knocked and said he was the resident assistant.
Fox News reported that shots were fired, damaging some furniture in the room, but neither of the students were hit. An email alert sent out to students on Sunday stated that the robbers demanded money and drugs, but Womble said it was unknown if the burglary was drug related.
Womble said that the students did sustain other injuries during the assault. One of the victims was taken to the hospital, where his condition remains unknown, while another was treated at the scene.
"This ins't anything new, I'll say that. Robberies have been happening for a while now," Matthew Bell, a University Student, told WRAL.
In fact, there was a shooting near campus at a Chinese restaurant around 7 p.m. Saturday, but Womble said it was unclear if the two incidents were related. Four shots were fired inside the establishment, but no one was injured.
Another security alert sent out to students via email saying that a student was robbed at gunpoint outside a dormitory Tuesday night.
No arrests have been made in either case, and police are continuing to investigate.
