Rodney King pleads not guilty to DUI charge

(CBS/AP) LOS ANGELES - Rodney King has reportedly pleaded not guilty to DUI charges in connection with his July arrest in Southern California.

Court records show that King entered the plea in Superior Court to misdemeanor counts of driving under the influence and driving with a blood-alcohol content above the legal limit of 0.08 percent.

Prosecutors say King was driving under the influence of both alcohol and marijuana when he was pulled over in Moreno Valley. King has a prior DUI conviction, and if convicted this time, he could face up to a year in jail.

King is best known for being the subject of a videotaped beating by Los Angeles police in 1991. The officers were tried and acquitted, which led to the 1992 Los Angeles riots.

King's lawyer Laura Box did not comment on the plea. King is due back in court on November 21.

by Henri_Rochard November 8, 2011 12:59 PM EST: Let's just assume, for entirely academic purposes, that Mr. King is proven guilty. (For the record, Mr. King is innocent until proven guilty and I am making no comment regarding Mr. King's guilt or innocence on this charge.)

However, if Mr. King is proven guilty, do you think his sentence will be closer to one year, or the 6 hours that Lindsey Lohan served ???; Reply to this comment

The man should have been in prison prior to the 1991 incident and should still be there now! Between 1987 and 1989 he was arrested for beating his wife. The beatings happened on numerous occassions. No charges were filed. In 1989 he assaulted a store clerk with a deadly weapon and robbed the place. Charges were reduced. He served less than a year in prison. Following the 1991 incident, in 1992, he beat his wife again. No charges were filed. Another dui 1992, no charges were filed. 1993 dui again. He crashed into a nightclub. He was given 21 days of community service. May 1995, another dui, failed sobriety tests, refused a blood test. Tried and acquitted. July 1995, abused his wife then hit her with his car and left her on the side of the road injured. Found guilty of hit and run driving. Community service again. March 1999 he injured a 16 year old girl he fathered out of wedlock as well as the girls mother. He claimed it was family misunderstanding. No charges were filed. September 2001, arrested for indecent exposure and use of pcp. No charges. Etc.

Whats next?

Wow, maybe we should all ask for a "beating". We would be able to obtain get out of jail free tickets for life! I'm sure there is another factor we would have to throw in but I won't go into that.; Reply to this comment
