CANTON, Miss. (CBS/AP) Carla Hughes, a former Jackson school teacher, has been convicted of capital murder for killing a pregnant woman so she could be with the woman's fiance.

A Madison County jury convicted Hughes on Tuesday. She faces the death penalty or life in prison without the possibility of parole for the slaying of Avis Banks and her unborn child.

Prosecutors say Hughes killed Banks at her Ridgeland home so she could be with Keyon Pittman.

Pittman and Hughes were having a sexual relationship and taught at the same Jackson school.

Banks was shot in the leg, buttock and head and then stabbed in the face and neck on Nov. 29, 2006, in the garage of the Ridgeland home she and Pittman shared.

I just saw this on Snapped the other night, couldnt sleep. It was awful!! I cant believe that Keyon got away scotch free, its obvious he had something to do with it. How many women was he seeing at the same time, seeing Avis, Carla and flirting with some students mom during practice. I pray for these families involved and pray the truth will come out!

I just watched it tonight! I COULD NOT BELIEVE he got off like that! His infidelity had a direct effect on what happened to his fiancee! Yes, we cannot control people but our actions can act as catalysts!
