Derrion Albert Beating Death: Three Killers Still on the Loose

CHICAGO (CBS/AP) Authorities hope a $6,000 reward will be enough incentive to lead to the capture of three more suspects in the beating death of 16-year old honor student Derrion Albert.

Four teens have already been charged with murder for the vicious attack on Albert last Thursday, after the sophomore left the Christian Fenger Academy High School.

Cell phone video footage shows a group of teens kicking and striking Albert with splintered railroad ties. The killing occurred amid escalating violence between groups of feuding students at the school.

Police and Chicago Public Schools say they're looking to prevent more violence by increasing patrols before and after classes and by offering free bus service to some students.

Area church members are also volunteering to stand on corners as students travel to and from school.

Silvonus Shannon, 19, Eugene Riley, 18, Eric Carson, 16, and Eugene Bailey, 18, have been charged with first-degree murder. All four teens are being held without bond.

by 20770_30 October 12, 2009 4:41 PM EDT: I feel sorry for the parent of Derrion Albert (Ms. Janette Albert)..May god bless you and keep you strong through this hardship. Im sorry for your lost and it is a awful shame that we have to even worry now about our kids going to get a education and getting hurt..The kids that are responsible for this should be punished for to the full extent of the law and the adults that had the nerve to be standing around should also be held accountable. All that sat and watch that go down should be punished because this could have been avoided..This child being beat to death..We out killing each other over stupidity..I bet the teens responsible for this hd no reason to hurt derrion. My heart truly goes out to the family, friends and loved ones that have to go through the devastation of knowing that derrion had to leave us in such a horrible way.May god bless and besides this just being a reality check i pray in my heart, soul, and mind that this changes the perspectives in young youth nowaday..Parents need to be involved, communities need to be involved..All this hate in this world needs to change..These kids are too young to know and to experience life before they dead or sucked into the streets and become heartless..Everybody life in this situation is now ruin, victimized and forever changed.The kids that did this, adults that watched, the parents on both ends, derrion albert, family, friends, neighbors, and America period as a whole..All who see this devestating act. People stand by and watch this crap and then wan't to feel sorry and decide to intervene too late. This has to do alot with their environment. If the state would make it a safer area teens wouldn't have to feel like they always need to fight to stay alive. It also don't help that the parents are most likely fighters themselves. They grow up seeing that so that's what they know. The mothers have their nerve saying they're children are innocent. It's clear on video! Parents always want to defend their children even when they know they're wrong, that's why they continue to be this way. Parents grow up and teach your children the right thing to do, DON'T stand beside them, don't join them in the fight(many times this has hapened), and stop encouraging this behavior!; Reply to this comment

Nothing but violence & sex in the music. And if you think it's silly too think that this music affects their behavior...your the naive one. Just look at the way they dress. It is too bad that I'm neither male or 200 lbs; however they should be electrocuted & if anyone can't do it I will! I'm 4'11" & gladly would pull the lever. Also those who just stood by should be held accountable. Jail them for at least a year & have them watch that poor child's beating at least 3 times a day - right before and after each meal.; Reply to this comment
