MANCHESTER, Iowa (CBS/ AP) Hard-hearted.

Those are the words that many would use to describe 32-year-old Jesse Fierstine, who is charged with cutting a pacemaker out of his father's chest this April.

Authorities are now saying a third mental evaluation will be conducted on the northeastern Iowa man.

Mike Lahammer, an attorney for 32-year-old Fierstine, said Thursday his client has undergone two mental evaluations, and the Delaware County Court said the third must be at Fierstine's expense.

Lahammer declined to discuss results of the previous evaluations.

Family members say Fierstine, of rural Manchester, suffers from bipolar disorder and wasn't on his medication at the time of the attack. He is accused of hitting his 63-year-old father, Charles Fierstine, in the head with a flashlight and a piece of firewood before using a pocketknife to cut out the pacemaker.

Jesse Fierstine is charged with attempted murder and willful injury causing serious injury.
